My sister works at a bar and grill were the uniforms and just basic t-shirts with the logo and khakis. Yesterday the owner came in and told everyone that there will be new uniforms; tank tops and jean shorts or jeans. He points to my sister and two other girls and told them that they have to wear the Hooter's style shorts that he brings in for them. This sounds very very wrong to me!!! Is this legal???

I think that if he wants to change the uniform that he his perogitive, but if you are going to have three of the girls wear the uniform thank EVERYONE should have to wear it!!!

If she did not agree to this when she was first hired in the origional contract no I would not think he could force them to wear Hooter style clothing unless it was in the agreement when they were first hired. |

I remember hearing about something like this. Tell your sisters to look back at her contract. Some restaurants will hire "models who serve food" instead of waitresses as a way to work around that |

One of the nice things about America is that people have the freedom to work wherever they want to, or not work wherever they don't want to.
I'd recommend that you let your sister know that she is perfectly free to put in applications elsewhere, and can select from all the job offers based on the uniform requirements if she wants to.
There is nothing wrong with the business deciding what image it wants to portray; and there is nothing wrong with having the employees uphold that image. If the image changes from time to time, oh well.
