Do Americans wish it was illegal to carry weapons?

...self-defense, property defense and defense of your neighbors property is a privelege of U. S. citizens guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment and many other laws entitling us, as citizens, to protect our community, using deadly force, if needed
...have you or anyelse, ever lived in a country where chaos prevails, gangs of criminals lurk and prey at will, undetered....such as Somalia, Palestine....China (lurking criminals are very much part of China's new social development)
...in chaos you will notice that law abiding citizens are not allowed to have guns
....imho, i believe Americans are satisfied that it is legal to carry licensed, registered guns
...there are thousands of unregistered weapons still in America too
...kept safe 'just for emergencies' |

Making weapons illegal doesn't stop criminals from getting access to them and crime from happening.
Stricter gun control laws don't help situations.
Crime and illegal gun buying needs to be stopped.
Im all for getting rid of scumbag gang members ; ) |

There are many Americans who wish that the right to bear arms would be taken away. However, that would require a change to the Constitution.
Such a change would be impossible at this time. |

Absolutely not. The people you have to worry about are the ones who carry them illegally. If they were to be banned how would you protect yourself? All you do when you ban them is hurt the citizens who are using them in the correct manner. My husband and I have the right to protect our family and property. Come into my house without permission and you won't walk back out! |

or do they wish it was legal to carry weapons.
i would.
cmon it is not the old west, we are or should be civil, i mean road rage incidents where a gun is pulled, i love guns but some are not mature enough, and look at all of the off duty officers who use guns as a crutch in disputes.
we could go for an all or nothing, everyone has a right or no body, but me u and them would have one, there is no standards, i took hunters education, look at the masses who have never even done that.
If u want gun rights at least teach everyone how to use them, get a license simple, it may keep kids from accidental shooting a sibling. or someone who was not a threat.
it is all about Smart gun owership. |

We were given the second amendment for a reason..to protect the rest of the Constitution when a tyrant government threatens to take it away. Besides, only law abiding citizens would turn in their guns if told to. That leaves the police and criminals with all the guns..and you unable to defend your property and family from invasion if needed.
With guns we are citizens, without them we are subjects. If you really choose to look at history, it will tell you that more people have been killed and mamed by their own government than every war that has ever taken place on planet Earth. Government is the biggest threat to the individual, you just do not know that because you have had the luxury to live in one of the very few nations that has been able to bare arms.
Barbara is extrememly misinformed. What part of "the people" is restricted to law enforcement only? "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"--USA Constitution, 2nd amendment |

I can think of very few objects that can't be used as weapons. The deadliest weapon in the US seems to be the automobile, and banning it would be of considerable inconvenience.
I grew up in a society in which knives and guns were part of everyday existence, routinely used for good, and almost never misused. With that background, I've never had a fear of such weapons, though as a military veteran and an emergency physician I do have a healthy respect for the damage that can be caused by the mean and the idiotic. I'm all in favor of controlling those groups, but not many of the objects with which they might come into contact. You'll note, for instance, that normal people rarely misuse such weapons, and most people who misuse such weapons are already prohibited from having them. |

No. Smart Americans know that without guns, our government could simply do anything they want to us. ANYTHING. |

In most places in the U.S. it is illegal to carry weapons. It's not like people are just walking around with gun holsters and rifles. Some people do in rural southern areas,,, but for the most part people don't carry guns or weapons unless they are illegally being carried or the carrier is a cop. |

Most would prefer the right to carry weapons.
Most people are not criminals, and make good choices to do things good for others as well as themselves. In addition, almost all gun owners are very aware and respectful of it's power.
If you were threatened, and you had a gun, you could threaten back. This usually prevents an attack, eliminating the confrontation. This scene plays out hundreds of thousands of times each year.
On the other hand, if you are unarmed, then your defense is to call for help, which puts you in greater danger - you are drawing attention to your opponent, which raises the tension. And you are helpless until help arrives.
Your choice. Dark night, you are alone, walking a few blocks to your car, in a new area. You want to defend yourself, or wait for police? |

No , NO , No , If it were Criminals would own the Streets , The Police have no legal responsibility to Protect you , They can do nothing till a Law has been broken .
@ Barbara You need to reread the 2 Amendment , and the Supreme Courts ruling on it . It is the Citizens right to Keep and Bear arms .
Do you really think if Guns were outlawed that the Criminals would not have them ? |

yes.
the 2nd amendment only guarantees the right to state and local police, not citizens.
bad guys get guns by stealing them from citizens who never comply with gun safety rules. they don't even report it when their gun gets stolen. |
