Drop the charges?

If you are subpoenad to court yes you have to go. If not and you don't show up charges maybe dropped due to your failure to appear OR he may still be found guilty or plead guilty if the state wants to pursue the case.

im sorry but i would advise testifying against him and bring him to justice because if he ever gets another girlfriend he could do the same thing

Boatin' in VA!
Why do you care whether he loses his job or not? He broke the law, right? He hit you, right?

You know it's over but that does not forgive the fact that he assaulted you. To have him sit in jail one night is simply not enough of a punishment for the crime.

If the case goes forward you will be compelled to testify and you must accept that fact. Remember, it was his hitting you that prompted you to call the police.

in most states and counties once the charges are filed yes you do have the option not to go to court unless you are subpoenaed. however i once had a break in at my abandoned property i filed charges on the guy and never went back to court the state picked up the case and continued without me so even if you don't appear in court once the charges are filed your friend might still have to deal with the repercussions

What is "his curiae?"

Anyways, if you show up to the court date, they will continue w/ the charges. If you do not show up, then likely the charges will be dropped.

You can refuse to press charges and he will probably be free within hours.
