Rac cannot charge you whatever they want. Every state is different but here's an example for Californians:
The cash price (which is the price you can purchase the item from the store for) cannot exceed (for a new item) 1.65, 1.7 or 1.9 times more than the store actually paid for it. Depends on what you are renting.
The total of payments (for a new item) cannot exceed 2.25 times more than the cash price.
If the item is used, the price drops according to previous rent already paid by others.
If you think you are being overcharged, start doing some research on the law in your state. Additional Details Check the rental purchase laws for your state. California has the Karnette Rental Purchase Act. I'd be more than happy to provide more evidence of what I am saying, if needed.

Your right but they get away with it by convincing people that their credit is so bad they can't buy what they want any other way. It's really too bad I have a friend who needed a new computer I told her to tell me what she wanted and I would help her. I told her I could get her a good computer for about $400. She went to rent-a-center instead spent $400 (she told me) and got a real piece of crap. She told me recently that she ended up paying $1200 for the thing. I could have gotten her that same computer for about $200. And when she got it it was obvious that someone had already owned it (their bank info was still on it). |

You need to provide some evidence for your price claim. I know of no State that imposes price ceilings except for some very few items. Your total of payments claim is a little misleading as well. There are limits, vary by State to interest rates. But if your claim that they cannot exceed 2.25 times the cash price is true then there are many stores that are in violation. |
