Depends. Domesticated pets shouldn't be eaten. Some are for food and others for companionship. In other words, it's OK to eat a cow but not my cat. |

Plants are alive too. What about their rights?
Hmmm, but what do we eat now? |

Just to clear it up what Agent said, the reason people got sick at Chi Chi's in 2003 is due to a Hepatitis A virus found in their vegetable salsa. So according to your theory, people soon won't be eating vegetables.
Of course it is fine to eat animals. Animals eat animals. There is nothing even remotely wrong about it. |

Salad is what food eats. I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to become no stinking vegatoid. |

We are at the top of the food chain. What makes us any different than other predators that kill animals for food? Besides we raise our farm animals to provide food. It's not like they are going to be extinct. Nothing anybody can say or do that will keep me from throwing a steak on my grill. |

Does an animal have free will or a soul? No. We are the top of the food chain--the dominant animal. We have just as much right to meat as a lion does. Do you think a lion will debate eating a human? |

"do animals have rights or should we eat them? "
We should eat them! |

If animals had rights, then how would you punish the other animals who eat animals? Are you going to put a lion in prison for chowing down on a zebra? |

All beings with rights have duties to each other, and to those without rights. Does a cow have a duty to a human?
The duty that humans have to animals is to care for them and treat them humanely. While you could argue that certain animals used for food are treated inhumanely, to say it is not right to eat them is completely missing the point. |

If an animal tells me not to eat it, or hires an attorney, I'll leave it alone.
Sorry, you're not going to get many serious answers to this one. |

I don't think they should have the same rights as humans, but I don't think they should be mistreated either. As far as eating animals, kill them humanely, not torturously. Yummy yummy! |

Are you serious?? |

The answer is both.
Animals are protected (as they should be) from those who would cause them pain and suffering for their own twisted pleasure. They are also protected (as they should be) from those who take on the responsibility for their upkeep but fail to provide them with the basics like food, water, and a living arrangement that is not directly hazardous to their health.
As far as eating them goes, the reality is that humans are omnivores and are at the top of the food chain. Eating an animal does not equal animal cruelty, it is simply participation in the order of nature. |

I'm a meat eater. But, I don't think it's right to torture, harm, or kill an animal for fun or for sport.
You are supposed to eat what you catch/kill. If you don't plan on eating dog or cat, then don't kill a dog or cat. Get the picture?
Only kill the animals that are for food (cows, pigs, chickens, fish) and don't play with them or torture them before hand!
This is my opinion.

Animals only have rights if humans give them to them. I think we should certainly treat everything with respect, even if we are going to eat it which I am not. The only article I can site it my cup of tea on this coaster right in front of me. |

As a member of PETA (people eating tasty animals), I highly recommend that we exercise our right to "choose" by eating animals. |
