At least in Virginia, the police can lie, or at least mislead you to trick you, and get away with it during questioning, according to this lawyer's site, (look about 2/3 of the way down the page:)

The same site points out that under oath, in a court of law, the police have to tell the truth, at least they're supposed to.

lol i used to hear that when asked for a third time it was illegal for the narc to not admit what he really is. i think its just gotten twisted through the grapevine of idiots.

lets say you get arrested and are charged and go to court. if you asked the narc and he says he isnt, i guess your chances of getting off because of entrapment will go up. but then you are going to need a really expensive/convincing lawyer to pull that off. if you are just dealing in small amounts (of marijuana especially) i wouldnt worry too much about narcs. i use words like weed, pot, and bud liberally on text messages, the internet and over the phone and i am doing just fine. they dont care about recreational smokers. law changes are coming...

No they don't and if in a courtroom you say you asked the Narc if he was a Narc. The Narc will say no you did not. Guess who they will believe.

Yes, but they don't always. How can they get around this and still bust you? Well the one narc you met tells his buddy what you are up to and has him follow and arrest you. Meanwhile you are totally in the dark as to how this could have possibly happened.
