Do people who are against animal testing accept life saving drugs and treatments?

Your question highlights the problem with one issue extremists. It really does not matter what the one issue is: animal rights, anti-abortion, pro-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro-gay rights, anti-Israel, Zionist, etc., etc,. . .

These one issue extremists limit themselves by and their potential by getting wrapped up in one extreme position and focusing all of their mental and physical attention on that one issue. The result is things like abortion clinics getting blown up and the 9/11.

Rational, intelligent human beings need to focus on multiple issues and learn to balance different points of views regarding different issues.

they probably do. i've a sneaky suspicion the issue isn't so much with life-saving drugs and treatments, but cosmetics and other consumables which are tested on animals unnecessarily.

there's a big divide between a company developing a drug which could save lots of children's lives which is tested on animals, and a company producing yet another miracle shampoo/conditioner.

Its not as black and white as that! Some drugs that are tested on animals work and then when they are tested on humans can be very dangerous!
There are other ways to test drugs, they are some organisations that do all there testing on human tissue, and humans and they don't hurt 1 single animal...if only all organisations could do this, but its to easy for them to test on animals rather that human samples.
I don't look down on people who use the medicine that has been tested on animals, but i do look down on activists that terrorise people, i think peaceful protests are fine, but no violence should be involved!
Maybe 1 day people wont have to use animals to test on for medicine, but they should stop all other testing on animals, cosmetic's shampoos, and other things that are not for medicine should be stopped....so as you see its a gray area.

Most are against it for COSMETIC uses. And that they shouldn't be living in such horrible conditions. They shouldn't be kept in crates with no toys, food water, never bathed or taken on walks, etc. They can conduct them more humanely than they do, so do some research and we aren't as horrible as you say we are. We aren't terrorists. We aren't hurting anybody. We are standing up for animals because they can't stand up for themselves. I would take them. And I don't think any less of anyone who does take them.

are you including non extremist animal rights protesters who protest against cruel and unnecessary forms of medical testing (e.g. electrolysis on monkeys) or just extremists? Both types would accept treatment but only one has their moral wires crossed.

They're so hypocritical, they'd expect life-saving drugs that have been tested on animals if, God forbid, they needed them. But personally I think drugs should be tested on prisoners, i know you're probably gonna hate me for that!

I think all people would take the life saving drugs. I hate the thought of things being tested on animals that is why I never think about it coz I know as a nurse that we would be in alot of trouble if the drugs tests didn't exist. xx

I do not believe in animal testing, where the animal suffers any pain or distress. I think it is cruel and barbaric. I mean we would probably make necessary advancements if we tested on humans - but nobody civilised would want to do that. Howver once the advancements have been made in this way, it would be ludicrous not to accept them as being valid, of course any rational person is going to accept life saving treatments, what good would it do not to? It wouldn't make a point or help you with your cause to die. I mean I don't believe in slavery either, but that doesnt mean Im going to shun every building that was built by slaves. You accept that things have happened in certain ways and you try to campaign for a better way to bring about advancements in society. Not all animal rights activists are unreasonale, hard line nutters you know!

I personally do believe that if there's an urgent need for animal testing for a lifesaving medicine or something similar it's ok. But I find animal testing for cosmetics cruel.

I utterly detest the thugs who seem to disregard human pain and suffering in their "Causes".

I don't agree with testing for cosmetic uses, but how else can we develop life saving drugs? My mother has been diagnosed with cancer 3 times, and if it wasn't for the chemo and other drugs she had to take, i doubt she'd be alive today.

I don't think the animal terrorists are actually in it for any particular reason - I think they probably just need to justify their reasons for causing as much chaos as possible. It would not surprise me in the slightest if they hypercritically take the tested drugs when the chips were down.

Dont get me wrong - i'm not biased about all animal activists as there are good causes against animal cruelty from people who really do believe in their peaceful protests. Its the letter bombing, serious attacks and what not that happen at the labs. I would love to know if there has been a study about this very topic - just how many of the animal rights terrorists HAVE taken animal tested drugs.

100's of horses were killed in the movie "chariots of fire" but I can still watch the film because that was history.The main concern should be to stop cruelty that is still happening now because what has already happened cannot be changed.

I beleive If you want to test drugs then test them on humans not animals.There will be better,faster scientific results testing on humans.Thousands of innocent dogs and monkeys wont have to be cut to apart everyday through no fault of their own other than being born that species.

Animals feel the same type of pain as humans.

Of course they do, most against animal testing are utter hypocrites. All drugs need biological testing, and before they reach the human phase, they're tested on animals. I'd like to see an animal activist with an agressive cancer turn down chemotherapy on that basis...

They should test all the things they test on animals, on animal rights activists. Same as we should allowed to hunt, hunt protesters. Conservation is a good thing, but sometimes culling is nessesary. So is testing things on rats, before your kids or yourself use them. To John P. I believe that was done recently in the UK with very adverse affects to the 3 or 4 of the testees. Now one is sueing the chemical company even though he has signed a waiver. The others will surely join in, so the drug manufacturer faces bankrupcy. Animals can't sue! People can! I would say test them on violent criminals, but unfortunatly they have rights too!!

I would hope so. It's not like the animals are sitting there smoking in full make-up!!

The animals are used to help find cures for diseases. Most drugs are tested on animals and if animal rights protesters are so against it, then they shouldn't take any medication.

I would rather an animal suffer than someone I love suffer.

Plus, if the animals are suffering unnecessarily, they are put to sleep. Also there are specialist animal sanctuaries for animals that have been used in testing, where they can live out the rest of their days in comfort.

Animals would not be tested on unless it absolutely necessary. Unfortunately there are some awful diseases out there that can cause long and painful deaths. Until there are cures, animals will always be tested on.

I am a vegetarian and an animal lover, but I appreciate the value of human life as well.
