Nebraska still uses the electric chair.
This is the death penalty: "The State killing people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong"
It's not a deterrent. it doesn't keep other people from committing murder. And don't use the argument "Well the person that's executed will never kill again". You're right. They won't. But that's not what a deterrent is.
It's nothing more than an act of vengeance by the state that accomplishes nothing. |

Only if we practice with the senators that voted for the immigration bill,Ted Kennedy first,in his case,he should go on it twice since he killed that girl while driving drunk |

Just recently a guy was going to be excited in Ca. But they said he might feel pain from the lethal injection so it was put off. This is a guy who dragged a 17 year old little girl out in a orchard, hit her in the head with a hammer. repeatedly raped her, stabbed her and left her their to die. He wasn't worried about her feeling pain. I think the punishment should fit the crime. They should have hit Him in the head, shoved a ball bat up his *** and stabbed him. |

Noone has the right to take other people's life. The meaning of imprisonment is to reform one's character, to make sb to understand his/her mistake and try to rehabilitate...And as you probably know, many times the verdict is wrong. Many innocent people have been wrongly executed. And don't forget that all this methods deprive one's descent death... I'm totally against death penalty;it should abolished. But it won't, because people feel powerful when they see others dying and suffering...We like to play God... |

Since many states do provide the death penalty, I think it would be far more humane to provide a quicker trial, sentencing and punishment. Allowing someone 20 years to sit on death row for a crime that's irrefutable is a crime to the taxpaying public. With the technology that's available to tie a suspect to the crime scene, it should reduce appeals considerably. Obviously, if the prosecuting attorneys screw up, the appeal process could prolong a prisoners life span on death row.
But any of the choices are fine with me. You can include hanging, firing squad, the guillotine. Don't matter. |

No way. I don't agree with capital punishment at all. It does not help to prevent crime, and it does not help to make victims feel better to know that criminals are being murdered. I don't think that any human being should have the right to kill another. |

no the electric chair usage is too expensive and is alot to cleanup..they still have that and gas chambers in certain states..I think lethal injection is the best way to go..it's the most humane way and its inexpensive, fast, and there isn't a big cleanup |

Not in this country! Personaly, regardless of the crime that the person has commited, i dont think that killing another person is the way to justice. I think that you should set an example to other people-and killing another person just creates fear in all those around us. We shouldnt have to live in fear. Its also a factor that those killed from death row in the US (in particluar), 15% of those killed were found out to be innocent. Thats very alarming!!
We should have respect for one another and i am not religious, but i do-not think that we should have the power to take away human life-in retaliation of that human killing someone else, or commiting a related crime.
We should be teaching our children differently-and others around us. Criminals are often uninformed, or uneducated,. I donot believe that they are evil, or anything else. I think that the behaviour they show has been conditioned through others behaviour in their close circle-i.e fmaily/friends, or they are pshyically/mentally ill.
Its a difficult topic, as its so difiuclt as to what punishment they should ahve instead. Some people commit crimes, regardless of their backgrounds and the way they were brought up-its very complicated.
i would suggest that the punishment would be to apologise to the friends and famiyl that they have affected, and to do community service, if it is a small crime. If it is somethign extremely serious (for example murder) i dont see any other way, except from imprisonment (to protect others form harm int he meanwhile) and education. Some people need to get help mentally-either by a therapist/counsellor.
But overall, i donot agree with the death sentence. I dont think we should have the power to end another human beings life. Its just doing the same as what they did in my eyes.
