If you're making payments on real estate, (or own it), and you are current on your taxes, you have a right to live there. You do not have a right to free housing.
Now driving on public roads is a privilege, not a right. |

There is no "right to housing" in the US Constitution and ammendments. Perhaps you should start a grass-roots movement to enact one? |

If you aren't paying for a place to live, then its a privilege. |

It is not a Right to have any particular type of place in which to live. It is only a Right to live.
Our natural Rights stem from our God-given 'natural condition' to be free of outside restraints in our actions. Rules, laws and regulations then impose upon that natural freedom. Our Constitution is an attempt to restrict Government's eagerness to impose ever more restrictions, to preserve your Natural Rights as much as possible.
It is not your 'natural condition' to own or reside in any particular type of domicile, therefore it is not a Right.
For Humanitarian reasons, I do support the notion of helping others afford the privilege of living in someplace that shelters them from the elements and provides basic sanitary essentials. |

I have to agree with the officers....we earn the privilege by working to pay for it and care for the home. Just by virtue of being a human being does not give us a right to have a place to live. Think about it. Do you want to foot the bill for those unwilling to do what it takes to keep a home? |

Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. "A place to live" is pretty vague. It could be a cave, a tent, or under a pile of leaves.
Tell the people in Africa living under canvas lean-to's that they're "priveleged." Or the guy inder the bridge that he's "Privelaged". Thats ridiculous. |

If it was a right you wouldn't have to pay rent or buy your house now would you? |

i agree and disagree. many and most people do diserve a place to live. But when people do very stupid things that cost them their home they dont deserve to have one. |

I think everyone should have a place to live, but I don't believe that I should be forced to pay for someone else's pad if I don't want to. A place to live is an earned privilege, but our welfare society will provide one if someone can't or won't work to pay for one.
We also have no right to eat what does not belong to us. Our socialism provides welfare to those who can't or won't work to earn money to buy food, but we don't have an inborn right to take from others to eat.
In short, the police are right. |

That depends on the situation.
If you are living with someone else and not on your own then it is a privilege to be living with that person. They did not have to let you stay.
Everyone has the right to have a roof over their head but I would assume the officers meant that it was a privilege to have a "decent" roof over your head instead of living in a shelter or under a bridge.
If you are living in someone else's home then that is considered a "privilege" because someone is allowing you to stay in their home. |

Isn't the concept of the every man having a no more rights than any other a fundamental concept of communism? I'm sure I read that somewhere. |

He is right, if you do not have the money to buy or rent you do not have the right to a place to live. However in the most generous country in the world fellow citizens often provide this for their less fortunate brethren but it is not a right.
Also the Supreme Court has recently ruled that their are no private property rights in this country. You are mad at the cop but you are blaming the messenger for the bad news |

Well, they obviously haven't been paying attention to a century of Supreme Court opinions.
The right//privilege distinction has been thrown out for about that long.
And the right (or privilege) to own property is pretty well established. But they are correct that there is no universal right to live anywhere you want, especially someone else's property. |

That might feel that way. The shame of it is, is that many Americans feel the same way. A secure place to be ought to be the right of every person. |

DEFENETLY disagree, even horrible people dont deserve to be out on the streets. i will admit, not everyone deserves a nice place or anything, but everyone deserves 4 walls and a roof. |

I disagree, everyone should have a place to live. |

I disagree totally.... privileges are what a person WANTS.... but we have the right to have our basic NEEDS covered. |

No I don't agree. But that's the way they get around not having to find housing for all the homeless people. |
