When a country uses a method of interrogation like waterboarding or any other physically coervice method, they are using torture and have no right to criticise other regimes. The USA has lost any right to claim any kind of moral superiority of other regimes when it uses this method of interrogation.

torture some one long enough and they will say what you want and agree with what you say they should say. all this treatment does is cause the tortured person to confirm the theory the torturer has.

Violence's been nurtured by violence for a long time now. It's justified in itself, and that's really sad!

Torture and terrorism have been treated completely differently, and I can't see why. According to some, terrorists are animals. Torturers, on the other hand, can be heroes. "Someone has to do the dirty job", one might say. "Someone has to inflict the punishment in order to get the information from these monsters so that we, the 'civilized' ones, can finally live in peace".

Evidently, I'm way too stupid to understand that, because, for me, torture is no less barbarian or monstrous than terrorism.

History once again repeats itself, this method of interrogation goes back hundreds if not thousands of years.

Torture is as old as law itself; it was used in ancient Rome as in medieval Europe, French Algeria, and Northern Ireland, and still being used today in hundreds of countries around the world.

Examples:
The judas cradle,
Breaking with a wheel,
The iron maiden of Nuremberg just to name a few.

This type of interrogation techniques where so painful that the person being torture will give out false information to make the torturer stop, implicating many innocent people.

Eventually these so called "interrogation techniques" vanish, and are only used when a country is in some type of crisis.

Governments should invest time and money in finding other alternatives rather than the old "we are not afraid and will do anything in our power to get answers".

I personally think is wrong.

No-one has used waterboarding to get information from "suspicious" people.

The people who were waterboarded were people who were known to have *immediate operational intelligence".

This means not intelligence like "Who planted the bomb last Tuesday?", but "Where did you plant the bomb this morning"

Dozens of people are alive today because actual terrorists gave up information like that under waterboarding.

Here's a real world situation for you...
Your daughter has been seized by terrorists, and is going to be beheaded live on the Inernet in an hour. The CIA has captured one of the terrorists who knows where she is being held. Within 30 minutes or so, the other terrorists will realise he's missing, and move her, or kill her ahead of schedule. He refuses to say where she is. Do you treat him politely, and allow the terrorists to kill your daughter live on the net for all the world to watch, or do you waterboard him and rescue her?
