I do agree with it for the sake of non smokers, but I do believe it is affecting trade in certain businesses. Apart from making it more healthy for non smokers, I dont think it is achieving anything else like the government said it would. I dont think it is making more people give up, it just makes them stop socialising. I also think some public places are looking worse when all you see huddled outside the doors are little groups of people smoking.
I am a non smoker by the way! |

The government should not put smoking bans up in all places, I can understand restaurants and other places, but in bars, NO. If a bar owner wants it to be no smoking then its their call and put up signs so non smokers know smoking is allowed and a non smoking bar is down the street. What will the government ban next, if your overweight will you get a ticket if you eat to much? The government has no right to tell us how to live its our choice and if we don't like the place we are in we have the right to move on to a different place. It's America the land of free thinking and freedom, we are moving into a dictatorship now with these rules they are starting to impose. |

I'm a smoker and I agree to banning smoking in public areas.
As the smoker have the right to smoke, the non smoker has the right to not smoke.
Smoking near a non-smoker means both smoking.
The best way to deal with this problem is to provide a smoking area in public places. |

Yes, even though I am a smoker, i much prefer going outside as it makes me smoke less, and theres nothing worse than a smoky pub or when someone is smoking when you are eating. |

Yes, absolutely. People have every right to ingest whatever they wish, but not to inflict the consequences of their habits on other people who have not made that choice! |

yes i do.
It isn't fair on non smokers to have to inhale smoke fumes |

yes- it's nice to go out to the bar/pub and taste my food rather than the person's next to me smoke- I realize the small little dividers they used to use to "divide" the smoke/non smoke sections seperated us, but did nothing to keep the smell from drifting over, didnt really work. .. plus it's nice not to have cigarette butts all over the place. |

Not if it is outdoors or a privately owned business. For example if someone owns a bar I don't think the Federal Government should be allowed to ban an activity that is legal. If someone doesn't wish to patronize or be employed by that establishment that is their choice. |

Yes, I love going out for a drink and not stinking afterwards. I also think, just because you want to go for a drink why should you have to breathe in poison? I don't feel sorry for people who smoke, I used to and I know its a dirty habit, and people should quit. |
|

danor

certainly do, its not right when people have to inhale others smoke |

Yes I do. It's not fair that us smokers should have to mix with non smokers and better still the streets would be empty because non smokers don't spend any money and there children have to stay indoors and play in the garden and there dogs don't foul the pavements and they don't breath there smelly breath over the smokers. and I don't like non smokers nor does my mum or my nan or my sisters and the people who sell cigarettes don't like them, So there. |

yes, it's one of the few good things this government has done. |

it shows that smokers are selfish when they smoke they hurt peoples health not only theirs |

Yes I do. I think American society has become overwhelmingly health conscious these days. I have to deal with clouds of smoke every time I step outside at work. If you want to smoke your self to death thats fine, but not me.
There is still designated places that people can smoke, so it's no big loss IMO. |

Yes totally.
Would smokers like it if i came up to them and poured spiders down their top and said "share my love of spiders!" |
|

Nanami
|
Yes I do. I do not smoke and I hate when I am just walking around and then all of a sudden this cloud of smoke is in my face because somebody couldn't wait till they were outside to start inhaling and exhaling the poison. I hate the smell of smoke and it makes me dizzy. I don't know about other non-smokers but I don't even like to be around it. My mom is a smoker and I hate that but I can't stop her (and trust me I've tried...time and time again) but I know that she hates the new rule =P. |

yes i do as u are still prone to inhaling fumes & can cause problems so in the interest of every one total smoking should be banned But i pitty the staff working in these manufacturing industry what becoms of them With so much of recission it would be difficult for those people to live |

I totally agree with this ban, it is practically murder in one sence, second hand smoke can cause cancer and kill. If you are willing to do that to someone then you should have to face consequences.
Fair enough do your own body harm but youhave no right to cause any other person any harm with this disgusting habit. |

I'm a nonsmoker so let that be clear. I don't like being around smoke because I am allergic but hey, it's not like I'll go into shock so I just limit my exposure - my mom smokes and so do most of my family so they just go outside the house and we all hang out together and it's kosher.
I would much prefer going into a restaurant or sports bar pre-ban where there is an option for a smoking section or nonsmoking section than have to go out to a restaurant post-ban. Why? Because there are always like 15 people standing outside the door smoking and I have to walk through a huge cloud of smoke in order to go anywhere instead of letting the smoke disburse through the air.
I also don't think that smoking should be banned in bars or gentlemen's clubs or things of that nature. Doing that is a freaking joke.
I don't agree with smoking with kids in the car - especially infants. My mother smoked around us when we were young - windows rolled up in the car and everything. She thought it was no big deal and thought I was just complaining as a kid. Turns out I'm actually allergic and I was really feeling whoozy and really getting sick from it. Even if I didn't have personal experience, I wouldn't want anyone smoking in close quarters with my baby.
BUT public places - do what you may. Banning things aren't going to get people to quit. Ever hear of the prohibition? Or um, what's that, oh yeah, the "war on drugs"? Last I heard there's marijuana and cocaine in every city in the US. |

I don't really agree with it. The blanket ban is a bit daft.
What I do love is sitting outside the pub, the sun shining with a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other. And all of the non-smokers stuck inside. Ha! That'll teach 'em... |
