Do you believe African Americans should be justified for affirmative actions?

Affirmative Action needs to be tossed out the window and let peoples actions speak for themselves.
Yes, racism will always be a problem, but it's not just blacks being discriminated against, it's whites, Asians, Mexicans etc.

tex
do i believe its right that blacks get benefits simply cuz the color of their skin -- NOT AT ALL...

should blacks advance before me simply cuz their skin color -- NOT AT ALL

not a single black person alive today was enslaved by a white, i DONT think we should have any sort of affirmative actions, reparations, nor anything else

edit: ur ancestors apparently came from africa, so ur an african american...mine came from eastern europe, yet im just a white dude. ------ lmao...ur black and im white AND WERE BOTH HUMAN-AMERICANS

NO! if a company doesn't want to hire an applicant because of the color of their skin, then it's not a good idea for them to work there anyway. once in, they may face other discriminatory challenges- like being looked over for a promotion.

let's say there is one final position open in a company, and there are only two applicants left- one african american, and one caucasian. the caucasian is substantially more qualified for the position, but the african american is hired simply to meet a quota. that isn't right. what if that was YOUR (general, not limited to asker) company? for african americans- what if the roles were switched and you had no choice but to hire a less qualified caucasian over a substantially better african american applicant to oversee your investment- would you be comfortable with that? i doubt it.

I agree with tex...
I'm not racist, not at all, but I don't understand why race is STILL a bold title in the world today. It isn't because I am white either....as I face discrimination everyday BECAUSE I am white.
I'm not going to start ranting about how I am now the minority or anything...I know that sometimes I am priveldged because I am white. I think it's stupid, but I know it's true. But I also know that sometimes I am overlooked also because I am white.
It's like society is trying so hard to make up for the past when we should really just work on everyone being equal.
Hopefully this makes sense.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. But affirmative action is NOT justified, for anyone.

What does that mean? It sounds like a good question, but it really has no meaning....what are you asking?

not specifically. I do think we should do more as a society to break the vicious cycle of poverty, by offering more educational resources to poorer areas...since those kids lack critical support from parents who are often not educated and or they live in an area where crime is abundant and bad people are looked at as role models.

No, its detrimental both to the work force and to the african american psyche. Not only do qualified people get screwed out of jobs based on race (reverse discrimination?); but minorities have to wonder whether or not they earned their position, or if they got it as a handout.

I think the qualified and prepared should reap the benefits of their own hard work. I don't think it has helped all that much to "cater" to any particular group. Some people have handled the opportunity responsibly and succeeded. Some people have squandered the opportunity and still blame someone else for their own shortcomings. Personal responsibility and perserverance should apply to everyone, not just one group. black, white, female whatever.

no. it segrigates us by race just like racism has done in the past. therefore it's no better

Me, Too
There is no doubt about it, Affirmative Action has helped many African Americans obtain better educations and better jobs. But it should only be used when the person applying for the job is qualified for that job. To place an unqualified person in a job simply because he or she is Black or Latino or any minority is reverse racism and seldom works out well.

Actually, Affirmative Action has led to many instances where job-seeking Whites feel that they are discriminated against. Perhaps it is only right that they get a taste of what has been doled out to minorities through the years, but this feeling does lend itself to further problems among the races.

I think that Affirmative Action should be in effect for a number of years, then canceled as a good idea that has run its course. There is less bigotry in the workplace now; there are many educated Blacks and other minorities able to hold their own, so it may be time to open up the field again and allow the most qualified person to win the job, regardless of race.

Tapping on your toes
Not unless they were recently enslaved, which I doubt. This is a free country for blacks too, and they are free to achieve as much as anyone else.

No, I don't think anyone in America should be able to use affirmative action because America is a melting pot. Whites are no longer the majority. There is truly a pinch of everyone and every color in this country and I don't think that we should try to treat one race special.

Not a terrible idea. But who pays for it? And then who else gets affirmative action? Clearly, African Americans would benefit from affirmative action. But do some people (I'm talking about all races) get less out of life with the attitude that life "owes" them something?

Yes, we need affirmative action in the NBA.

yes...affirmative action is an ongoing process that should be continued to ensure a level playing field for African Americans.
