Do you know the answer to this question?

The difference between a summary and an indictable offence is:

(a) A summary offence involves civil law, an indictable one involves criminal law

(b) A summary offence is tried by judge and jury, and indictable one by judge alone

(c) A summary offence is a minor one, an indictable offence is a more serious one

(d) An indictable offence is an offence involving violence

Please choose either A, B, C or D :)

Actually, to the guy above, offence is the correct spelling in UK English. Trying to make yourself seem smart by correcting spelling really doesn't work when you don't understand regional variations, it just highlights ignorance.

The answer to the question where I live (Australia) is C. Not sure where you're from but it's probably the same.

I don't know it, but if I did, I wouldn't help you cheat on your test. It's specific to whatever state you live in anyway, and I'm not familiar with the terms you're using.

I'll help you on your spelling test, though...

"Offense"

...unless you're talking about statutes with regard to fences, in which case I'm sure they could be called "of fences".

In my state, an indictable offense is a felony. Indictments can only be handed down by grand juries. We don't have anything called "summary offenses". And, as far as I know, in any offense felony OR misdemeanor, the DEFENDANT has the choice as to whether to be tried by a judge or a jury. I'm pretty sure that's a federal law.
