Yes, they are representatives of mall management and if I want to continue shopping at that mall I should follow their rules. These are people who have decent jobs and while they are not police officers, they do have some authority. |

Are they a watchman or are they REAL security. I am starting a group that is going to try and get legislation passed about this very question.
Our nation has drastically changed since 9/11, wouldnt you agree? A Security company should no longer be allowed to claim itself to be a Security company, responsible for the safety of the public, without having WELL trained and armed personnel charged with that responsibility. The nations airports are an example. I would not rely on most of the airport "security" personnel to keep me safe. Most are no more well trained than the average person and are unarmed. They will simply be hurt first before the situation turns to you. I wont go into the pages and pages that we are going to present as our case, but simply stated, shouldnt anyone claiming to be "security" have the ability to provide it? Shouldnt you feel somewhat secure when someone tells you in a crisis situation that "I am security"! I am not saying all security officers are not trained but too many are not. Also, if a security officer has no weapon to support their position, how can they be security. Here in Arizona, we (armed security officers) go through a specific state required training program. This program is not enough. In my previous security employment, we were required to complete a much more vigorous training course by the company than what the state required. You should be appalled in this day and age, to see an unarmed, untrained person claiming to be a security officer. So, in my blow hard way, to answer your question, I have a respect for an armed mall security person. I know that they have some training and are of more benefit than an unarmed person. Still, I have a conceal permit and rely on my own advanced training to protect me and mine. |
