Do you think cannabis should be legalized?
|
The cannabis plant has been in the limelight recently as the violence on the Mexican border is escalating, fueled for Americas love of the herb, and made possible by our governments (failed) prohibition. This is a plant that has proven medicinal value, and has caused no deaths due to overdose, ever in history.
In the state of Florida in 2007, cocaine was responsible for 843 deaths, heroin for 121, methamphetamines for 25 and marijuana for zero, for a total of 989 deaths. In contrast, 2,328 people were killed by opioid painkillers, including Vicodin and Oxycontin, and 743 were killed by drugs containing benzodiazepine, including the depressants Valium and Xanax.
Why would you use this man made poison when you have a plant that has been around since the dawn of time??
You think that legalizing it would be harmful to our kids by making it more widely available, but what I find really scary is that dangerous drug pushers are becoming ever so intertwined in our childrens everyday life, The logical answer is to take the power out of the hands of the criminals (not the only ones profiting off of prohibition (politicians)), and place it into someones who will refuse to sell to anyone under 21, only then will it be truly controlled.
So anyway, do you favor legalization of marijuana, yes, or no?

Yes, very well said! In recorded medical history, 11 people have died from overdosing on aspirin; ZERO have died from overdosing on marijuana.
It makes absolutely no sense that pot is illegal while alcohol and tobacco (both of which are MORE harmful and MORE addictive) are legal.
Legalization would:
- Create thousands of jobs
- Deal a huge blow to criminal networks, which would suddenly be without a HUGE source of income
- Provide an enormous windfall for the government, which would bring in billions in taxes (ending Prohibition played a big part in getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression)
- Allow police, courts and prisons to focus their resources on REAL criminals. |

Under caffeine in the list of dependence
About the same brain domage as holding your breath for 10 sec
Better medicine than other medication with smaller side effect
No overdose, aspirine kills
legalizing for 21 and older would boost the economy. |

Yes. God put it here and in Genesis 1:29 God said He gave us all the plants that bear seeds. Any government that takes away what God says we can have will fall. |

Yes, all the way. I support legalizing every drug out there.
Gangs make the majority of their money off of drugs. They use this money to buy weapons and recruit new gang members. This drug money funds violent crimes, like robbery, carjacking and murder. If you legalize drugs, they will be readily available. Gangs wouldn't control the market. The price of drugs would go down, and eventually, gangs wouldn't make profits off of it. They'd have less money to buy weapons and put towards violent offenses. Look at Prohibition. Alcohol was deemed illegal. Gangs sold it, made money and became powerful. They spread crime and violence. The government legalized it, and the gangs couldn't sell it. They lost power. Crime dropped.
Is it so wrong to do drugs in your own home? Who are you bothering? As long as you don't drive, you're not harming anyone.
If we taxed drugs, it would bring in a lot of money. There is so much money in this business. It could be very profitable. It would also save tax dollars. We wouldn't have to pay millions of people in jail for drug charges. We wouldn't have to pay the police as much.
The police could also focus on more violent crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping, instead of sniffing around for weed or cocaine.
We would also have more room for violent offenders. There are so many people in jail for drugs that they kick out rapists and robbers to make room. |

No drug dealer ever asked me for my ID. Liquor stores still do and I'm 35 years old. I don't think legalizing pot will necesarilly make its use more prevalent. What it will do is help ensure the purity of the product. Consumers should be able to get a consistant product. The alternative today is pot laced with god knows what. |
