that being said, people should be allowed to display a flag if they want to, i don't see why not. it's a free country. |

It was not a flag issue in Trump's case. He was in violation of a city ordinance concerning the height of the flag pole. It's his own fault for not following the law. Every American has a constitutional right to display the flag, but it must be do in accordance with local laws where such laws exist. |

He is not being fined for displaying an American Flag. He is being fined for not applying for the proper permits to have such a large flagpole on his property. If he had gone about putting up the flagpole correctly by applying for the construction permit & the permit for such a tall strcuture, there would be no issue. It wouldn't matter if it was an American Flag or any other tall tower, he would still be getting fined because of the permit issue. |

I think that is wrong, in my opinion it is free of speech. It is in the Constitution! It is just being patriotic! Who ARE these people who are fining him? My family has a flag in our yard. |

Anybody should have the right to fly the American Flag at anytime, and anyplace in the USA, as long as it is done with respect to our nation and not as a symbol of protest, like flying it upside down for example!! There is a list of rules for honoring and displaying the American Flag and it would do this country a lot of good if everyone was taught this from a young age! And I also believe that the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited every morning in all schools like it was when I was in grade school, and with "Under God" left in!! And another thing: Reinstate the draft!! Nuff said (for now)! |

This issue has nothing to do with free speech, and has nothing to do with patriotism. It has everything to do with being classy, something that Trump knows nothing about. There's no need to try to impress others with the size of your flag. If you want to be patriotic, fly a standard-sized flag at a reasonable height. Why should people have to see it from miles away? |

I think Palm Beach needs to revisit their stupid ordinance. The flagpole is hurricane proof and the Flag itself is the same size as the Flag that flies over the White House, but Mar-A-Lago is bigger than the White House and the Flag appears to be totally appropriate. It's the namby-pamby Palm Beach liberals who hate any displays of patriotism because it might upset some foreigners that are creating the problems. |

It's not about patriotism, it's about local ordinances. If you allow one banner, flag, or sign, then you must allow all and that just leads to people wanting to force some stupid issue.
Sadly, it's what the lawyers have done to our country. Common sense is a thing of the past.

I do believe that one should be allowed to fly the American flag on their property. I think that the government is trying to get more money out of trump because he has it and won't miss it. If someone wants to wear American flag underwear its their prerogative. I feel it is OK to burn the flag too. It is a law, though not in practice, that if an American flag falls to the ground then it is to be burned and replaced. Patriotism should not be a crime. |
