Yes, I wish they wouldn't. People should be responsible for that stuff themselves, and the police could always check that when they pull someone over for something else, or if they have reason to suspect something. I'm always in compliance, too. You're right - it's getting pretty "Big Brotherish" out there. |

its a pain
but it does have to be done
but
ive been in one of those and by time they check your car you have time to toss your weed and buckle your seat belt |

Yes! |

Yes, ..... but then, I'm a dinosaur,
I think the seat-belt decision belongs to the driver, not the State.
I think the air-bag, (essentially a blasting cap), decision
belongs to the driver, not the State.
I think your car, let alone your person, is a private area
not subject to 'unreasonable search'.
I even think banking and medical records ought to be private.
Guess I'm just a bit out of date..... |

Yes and it may be illegal if they pick on poor people's neighborhoods. That crap got stopped in LA because they someone sued that the wealthier neighborhoods were not chosen to be spot checked like that. A judge agreed. That can be a form of profiling that is not legal. |

I am gonna tell you that though I would agree with you being the civilian who is always in compliance as well but on the other hand, doing my rides as an applicant to be an officer I can tell you, you would be surprised to find out how many people out there are drunk, high, or under some type of influence while driving. If having to wait means getting those guys off the road before they kill me or someone else then I will wait. |

its not wrong they just want to make sure you are safe
or make some money if you dont have your belt on which is wrong, so it is half right and half wrong |

This is why everyone hates cops...
Another flagrant violation of our personal rights... Another big money making device that they put under the safety category... Another very big brother move... etc...
It was already bad when they told us we had to buckle are kids or get fined, while i agree with seatbelts, i dont believe i have the right to tell everyone else they have to use it. If a parent doesnt seatbelt there 6 year old child, then it just the tip of the iceburg on issues that child will face anyways...
While i realize its not the cops fault the state is using them as glorfied tax collectors, its hard not to judge them accordingly... The fact that they are inconvecing hundreds of people to apply a ludcrious law meant to fill the states coffers is completly unacceptable...
I grew up respecting cops until i was exposed to them, i cannot in my short 28 years of life think of a time a cop has helped me out. I can however name many occassions when a cop has seriosly inconvienced me in 1 way or another... The real kicker is i know that i am paying for this disservice with my taxes...
ha, nice to know im not the only one irv... |

i hate my "job"
|
yeah, i do. i think unwarranted inspections are b.s.
I could go on about this, the whole seat belt law gets me; if i want to fly through my dashboard because i didn't "buckle up", then thats my prerogative..not to mention the people that get decapitated by their seat belts in accidents |

No, it's not morally wrong. But I do believe that the police officers in our country should not be wasting time checking things like seatbelt and inspection checkpoints. That is something that matter little compared to the myriad of crimes that go on all over this country. So my opinion is that they shouldn't be doing it, but you asked if it was wrong and the answer to that is no. |

Well this is interesting. Not wearing seat belts is a danger to the person alone, no one else ets hurt except the stubborn person without the seat belts. I think its nice of the police to protect people from themselves. It is the same as getting a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. Its nice to remind people about their own safety. But causing traffic is not even good for the environment. |

Kind of. I mean, your wife could be pregnant, and you're driving her to the hospital, when suddenly, you realize that everyone's stopped on the road, and you have to wait for a half hour for the cops to check everyone's seatbelts. It's unfair to people who are in a hurry. I mean, what are you supposed to say to your boss if you're late to your job more than once in a week? "Ohh, the cops've been checkin' those seatbelts like crazy this week..."? |
|

Nope, I think it's fine. There are grants that are given for officers to dedicate a certain amount of time to specific traffic violations. If you are in compliance, it's easy to see and you are on your way. |

On major "urban" highways, yes. On rural North Carolina roads, no. |

no because without a seatbelt you might die in a car accident!! its for your own good. |

I have always assumed they were using this to check for drinking or other things. Have never been thru one myself.
I could go either way. Bad to mess up a good traffic flow, good to find other things that would cause a bad accident. |

kind of
cause u need to do it sometimes
but u usually are supposed to do those things before you start your car |
|

Nunnybunny

No because there are always those idiots who don't wear their seatbelts. |

yeah but if u get in an accident u will wish u were wearing ur seatbelt |

Yes, especially since when they were trying to get the seatbelt law passed we motorists were told that we couldn't be pulled over for no seat belt.
They said we could only be ticketed for no seatbelt if we comitted another infraction and was found to be not wearing it. |

No. They are only trying to save lives, and although it may make you late for an appointment, they aren't hurting anyone.
Keep in mind that people who are driving drunk, etc. have the potential of not only hurting themselves, but also of hurting you. So, I'm not sure that this is Big Brotherish as the point of a police force, in my opinion, is to protect society in general.
Big Brotherish activity in my opinion is searching private property without a warrant or physically abusing a suspect. |

yeah, if there is a question on whether or not someone is wearing a seatbelt, then they can pull them over. but they dont have to stop a line of traffic! |
|

It's not wrong, otherwise they woulden't be doing it.
Annoying as hell YUP, but maybe if people would follow laws, they woulden't have to baby us. |
|

Barrack Obama is the best!!!!!!!

Yeah it is cops think they rule the world. I think if they spot a person not wearing one they should stop that person individually. |

No. They once did that to me when I was younger, I was sitting in the middle seat in the front, and a cop stopped us because he thought I didn't have a seatbelt.... |

Not really, if there was a crash because someone didn't have a belt on the traffic would be even longer. Plus they are trying to save lives. |

They are doing it for driver's benefits. I can't really say - I have never been in a situation where cops are doing that. |

No, they are training you to drive resonsibly and save not just your life, but the lives of others.
If they catch a child rapist in the course of the traffic checks, is it worth it?
If they ticket you for not having a seat belt and you start using it and in a week get slammed into head-on by a drunk driver, would it be okay then? |
|

Sheena

its not wrong since a seatbelt could be the difference between having an injury and getting killed |
