There are always two sides to a story. Was this a JURY trial of his peers???? I find it strange that so many people here would not agree with his sentencing yet a whole jury did agree. Where can we find out more about this??? Do you think the jury thought the little girl was more emotionally scarred from watching a man being beat to death in front of her than she was from the rape? I'm sorry but there is not enough unbiased info here to give you an unbiased opinion on whether it was "fair" or not. I know from working in the criminal justice system that things are not always what they appear to be and once you hear the rest of the facts, you can see more clearly. |

Justifiable homicide as far as I'm concerned. If I happened upon the rapist, he would have "disappeared" never to be seen or heard from again. At least, that's the way it is here in the south. |

I don't think he should get life but he should pay for what he did. It is never OK to kill someone. |

No....I think he should have received leniency because of being temporarily insane. Who wouldn't have been?....I can't imagine killing anyone....but I know something like that could put me in a rage if I happened upon it....so who knows...it could happen. |

He should be getting a medal instead of handed out a life sentence. |

no because he was defending the 9 year old he should get a metal |

No, that does not sound to fair. it is odd that the charge was not reduced down to manslaughter. I hope he is appealing verdict. |

Definitley not! I mean os we went a lil overboard killing the guy.. but i mean that little girl was raped she wasnt strong enough to resist his temptations. that guy did the best thing..so far as killing its a toughy..they should at least give him some community service or something not so harsh |

I think this man should have a parade thrown in his honor! |

No, not at all. This type of response is very human and should not be treated like a crime - it is an action of protection of the weak.
He should suffer no penalties for this - he saved the girl and did society a favor. It's sad that the law and government no longer recognizes the distinctions between criminals and law-abiding citizens. |

I agree that i would like to read the whole story....however given the facts were just as you stated then no I don't think he deserves to be thrown behind bars... |

I dont think so! I would do the same for my child if I saw the rapist! A 9 year old can defend herself with a person twice her size so someone might as well do it. Cuz if the rapist got charged, his sentence would be nothing compared to how much damage he did to the little girl. The rapist deserved what he got! |

no I dont and if there were more men out there like him then the children would be safe. I really respect this man and I think that he should not get any time for what he did. After all he was helping the child. This makes me so mad. |

Based on what you've stated, no. But he should do time. Other things to concider:
1. What is this man's history?
2. Has he done time before?
Unfortunately, some peoples' past can catch up with them. |

Maybe.
I need more facts. |

Initially I would say a lesser charge would be in order but would need to read more about the case. Could you site your source?
The assault on the girl is an egregious offense and the defense of her person by her protector must be taken into consideration as well as her psych eval. and deposition and testimony. |

I think the convicted solved the problem and so did the questioner. |

This person must have had a terrible lawyer. At the very least he should have been charged with manslaughter and the most, with second-degree murder.
Appeal, appeal, appeal. |

I'm doubting the story, but if it happened then I believe that he should get a new lawyer and appeal the courts decision. Most life sentences are only about 7 to 10 years served time though. personally I think it was a little extreme, but at most he should have been charged with manslaughter and that should have been reduced in a plea agreement. |

I trust a jury with this decision -- not a Yahoo! message board. Sometimes evidence shows that "snapped" is not quite what the person claimed. That being said, I do not support vigilante justice in any form, including the death penalty. Certainly this person had no right to become the judge, jury, and executioner. |
