Why? It is a billion dollar business and over 99.9% of the people that consume alcohol do so very responsibly and contribute to society.
Your issue is with the one tenth of one percent that does not. That is their personal issue and their personal demon. If they did not have alcohol to abuse they would be abusing something else...and then what do we do....take that away as well? What happens if they start abusing corn products? Do we ban corn products for the sake of the one tenth?
Doesn't make much sense does it that society should pay for the inability of a small percentage of people who are not able to get it together. |

We already tried it, and it was a disaster. We're currently doing the same thing with the same results in regards to several other substances, and it's as much of a disaster as it was the first time. Let's not dig our holes too deep, especially while we're standing in them. |

Silly idea. All you'll do is make people criminals when they start going around such a stupid law to get their booze.
OR, far worse, you'll invite people to find some other buzz of choice. THINK next time you offer a well meaning idea that has many negative consequences. Then read up on the Volstead act in history so you will actually learn something relevant to this question. |

NOPE... Prohibition didn't work in the 1920's any more than the supposed 'war' on drugs is working now.
If you want to make a lot of people rich, then all the government has to do is make it illegal.. but AmeriKans can't seem to understand this. |

Government makes too much money off of alcohol taxes, dui fines and other related taxes.....so its a money machine.....thats why cigarretts are nearly 5 bucks a pack.

no, it would be a terrible idea.
it could result in the same consequences as prohibition, i think it was the 18th amendment.
it caused a rise in organized crime (al capone, the "first" gangster made his business from selling illegal alcohol).
and most of all, its just a part of our culture and you can't cut out a part of culture. people will most likely follow the laws of their culture than the laws of the government.
like the caste system in india, for example. |

It can never be done, will never be successful. Alcohol has been around for as long as mankind existed. Even the gods loved beer and wine. |

No. Many folks enjoy a drink. Why should millions of people be deprived of something they enjoy just because some idiots can't hold their liquor?
P.S. Its because of Probation that the Mafias and all other gangster got such o hold on America. |

No theres enough prohibitions as it is. Statistically use of any substance increases immediately following a ban. Also, i should not have to punished because somebody else can't drink responsibly. Some worry alcohol may lead to accidents but so does driving. Maybe driving should be banned too. Sure alcohol has its problems but NOTHING in life is 100% problem free. If alcohol can be banned to make life safer than so can other things (as many already have) and pretty soon it will be forbidden to have much of a life to bother protecting in the first place. There should be no laws telling people what they can or can't put in their own bodies. Such laws are invasive and aggressive assaults against the individual. Prohibition was already tried once and it failed. |

No. Not really. Did you know in Germany the drinking age is 16 and they have far less drinking related fatalities and far less crime? If something is prohibited it just makes people want to do it more. Take marajuana for example. It's illegal, it's not that much different than alcohol, but it is regularly used but a lot of people. I think EDUCATION is the key. People need to know what they're putting in their bodies whether it's alcohol, marajuana, pills, and even fatty food. INFORMATION IS POWER. |
