It could be argued that it is morally wrong to ban the sale of diamorphine, cocaine, LSD, ketamine, cannabis, etc, when the sale and/or use of Volatile Substances (glue, aerosols, etc) and Khat, fly agraics, alcohol, chocolate, knives, etc are not as restricted, yet they all kill.
Governments make very contridictory laws on a regular basis. Some founded on science, some founded on moral panic and media frenzy, some founded on the interests of business and some founded on the doctrine of Christianity! |

As opposed to cars, alcohol, guns, knives, clubs, poisons, cleaning products, myriad other things that can kill.... You can eat yourself to death if you choose. Who am I to stop people from doing the things they enjoy, just because they're damaging? Now pass me a cigar. |

is it morally right for people to drive even though car accidents kill people.
is it morally right for people to own guns
is it morally right for people to eat fatty foods since it is bad for them and might cause their death.
If people want to die it has nothing to do with the morality of government |

Morally no it isnt - but then its the same with Alcohol, foods high in fat, fast cars etc etc. they can't stop us from buying everything bad can they. At the end of the day we are all adult with our own minds - it's up to us xxx |

no, but if they didnt there would be a £6bn shortfall in the treasury every year. Besides there are so many things that can kill on the market if they were all banned life would be stagnated |

Ask yourself if it's right for the government to allow sale of alcohol knowing it kills? Do you think they care,it brings in more revenue and helps keep down the population. When have they ever cared about morals?? |

Tobacco products don't kill people. People die from diseases that they've been told are associated with tobacco. They're aware of the risk involved, ad they decide to do it anyway. |

booze kills too...cars kill, skydiving kills, mountain climbing, fatty foods, sugary foods, should we ban everything???? |

Cars, guns, alcohol, even pencils, can kill. Is it right to live in a bubble of fear? |

If the government was to ban everything that was bad for us we would be living in caves and eating vegatables. TAX money power and income is the driving force behind any government and with the tax on cigarettes so high they will never ban them just keep putting up the price.
I am a non smoker but still feel that smokers drinkers and car drivers get a raw deal on tax in every respect I guess that includes almost everyone.
Everyone talks about reducing their carbin footprint but the tax footprint we leave behind is at least a size 13 and no one seems to care.
Sorry the vegatable are nearly done and I need to clean out the cave have a great day and Happy Christmas to all. |

Well there are a lot of things that in society that are dangerous to consume, inhale or operate. Alcohol, firearms, automobiles, fatty foods, knives, skateboards, bicycles. Hell a couple kids a year die from playing baseball. I'd continue on but it's time for a smoke break... |

Just like Domestic Gas, Electricity, Cars, Motorbikes, Aircraft, Ships, Buildings, Zebra Crossings, Guns, Knives, Baseball Bats, Beer Bottles, Drunk Drivers, The Police, Stairs, Bath Tubs, Fire, Kitchen Equipment, Lawn Mowers, DIY Equipment.
In effect, anything the Government allow for sale |

No its not right but they can tax it loads so they aint gonna stop selling are they |

Do you think it's morally right for the government to allow the sale of bombs, guns and ammunition meant for killing?
Alcohol kills more people than tobacco and they'll never stop allowing that to be sold. |

If we all stopped smoking the government would need to look into other areas that they can get taxes from.
So, non-smokers, it is in your interest to let us carry on with our 'evil weed' otherwise you'll have some tax slapped on you! |

I think that the government is to involved in everyday life. Alot of things kill that are for sale..including alcohol, perscription drugs, guns, ammunition, automobiles, motorcycles, knives, pesticides, poisions, plastic, animals...the list is endless. My question to you is "Where do you draw the line?" Should they outlaw perfume because it makes someone sick? How about condoms because they are birth control? How about everything made of plastic because it causes cancer? How about every motorized vehicle because it causes air polution? How about cell phones, ipods, and blackberry's they cause distraction and noise polution? OH and lets not forget rope.....someone might commit suicide (thats illegal too) |

You can't legislate morality. |

Yes, it's up to the individual to make the choice. Haven't you had enough of being told what you can and cannot do, what happened to responsibility?? Let's face it if they were to ban the sale of things that kill where would it stop? Cars, alcohol, fatty foods, sugary foods, over the counter medicines etc., etc., they all kill in one way or another, or have the potential to.
I am sooooooo sick of this nanny state!!!!! |

If you fall down the stairs......you could die.
A gun can kill you, a knife, a box cutter, hell slice open a finger with a good paper cut and if it gets infected that could kill you...........
Food can kill you. Trees can kill you. Ice can kill you.
How many things should the government outlaw because they might kill you? |

No - the same applies to alcohol, but we do tend to get the government we deserve. |

The government should concern themselves with running the country, rather than telling people what they should think and what they can do in their private lives.
They can advise people as to the possible dangers of tobacco, but ultimately it is up to each person as to whether they take that advice or not. |

I don't think it's right, but they earn so much money out of it, I don't think they'll ever ban smoking. |

No. In fact the government should be prosecuted for living off immoral earnings as, instead of banning a known poison they just tax the rear end off it!! |

it is the weakness of the government.Modern govt allows such unethical business as they do many unethical work behind the screen which public could not know. |

during the two world wars they had adverts from the British government saying SMOKE FOR VICTORY!!! every cigarette you smoke buys a soldier a bullet to defeat the enemy. of course it has allways been immoral. but for evey £5.00 you spend on a packet of ciggies, the government take £4.50 in tax....to be honest ,the tax from smokers kept the national health going....without that tax the government have to do what they are doing now. taxing you for every thing you do. including taxes you dont even know you are paying. you would stagger backwards if you were to see the exact sum of money that smokers were puting in to the government coffers 5 years ago.... |

Pst: it's not what goes in the mouth that defiles, but what comes out the mouth: Matthew 15:11: James 3:6. If you continue believing lies(laws), the law will certainly condemn and kill you: Job 15:6... 1Corinthians 15:56...James 1:15.
By the using of laws all perish: Colossians 2: 20-22.
