What do you mean, best? Do you mean tortured so as to die in unspeakable agony? 'Cos that's what the Missouri Protocol does, and most US States follow that procedure. Not enough pentothal to keep the victim unconscious. But the second drug paralyzes the body without removing sensation; and the high-dosage KCl that kills produces the most agonizing sensation as it courses through the veins and perfuses the coronary circulation.
If I were facing the death penalty, I'd rather have a short drop hanging than lethal injection. |

I don't think lethal injection is the best method. "Best" as in worst punishment. It simply ends their life and they no longer have to think about their wrong doing. To me, its like there is no consequence.
I think Life in Prison With No Parole is the worst punishment anyone can ever endure. But I do not think this should be available for crimes committed by youths under age 18. |

Its not so quick and painless as its made out to be. In most cases, they can't get a real doctor to do the weight analysis and chemical mixing.
Anyway, I don't trust the state so I'm sort of against the death penalty. A firing squad is probably the quickest and most dignified method. |

I have so many mixed feeling about the death penalty. What about the innocent people who were wrongly convicted and went to their deaths for crimes they did not commit. And we all know it HAS happened. Yet when a child is victimized and perpetrator is actually caught, I feel that even I could pull that switch or push that button or strangle him with my own hands! I would not make a good jury member on a capital crime. |

I think punishing criminals by death is a very bad idea because it legitimizes the state's right to kill. However, life sentences are worse, and most people support the death penalty, so lethal injection would be the best method, because it is least painful. |

One of your answerers thinks that the cost of lethal injections is why the death penalty is so expensive. The death penalty costs so much because of the legal process.
Why do we allow the legal process to go on so long?
More than 50 of the 124 innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speeding up the process will guarantee we execute innocent people.
BTW, DNA is available at less than 10% of all homicide scenes. It is not a guarantee that innocent people won't be executed. |

I believe it's the most humane method of 'putting someone down'. Of course, killing a person as a result of their actions seems hypocritical. I mean if joe schmoe kills someone and then the judicial systems then turns and sentences him to death why is the executioner not killed? Ok I know the answer why but you might take a minute to see my point. I think people that have commited serious crimes, crimes that are unforgiveable should be sentenced to life in prison, solitary confinement. That'd be alot more frightening than getting a painless injection and then having it all be over. |

It is way to passive. We give murder's an easier way out then how the punished their victims. And on top of this, we often give them choices on how they wish to die. They never give this option to the people they have killed.
I think we should bring back firing ranges and public hangings.
This country has become to politically correct. And we don't truly punish those who commit the most evil of crimes. |

I don't believe in capital punishment at all. Only The Lord can take a life. If the system kills another human being, it just becomes another form of murder. Just a legal one. Actually, if a person did such a horrible crime that he gets the death sentence, then let him suffer the rest of his life. Make him pay every day, not just sitting in a cell but hard labor for the rest of his or her life. |

The punishment is the loss of your life, not the pain of having it taken. Lethal injection is the way I would want to go if I was to be executed. |
