Absolutely. Prohibition only creates criminals. Cannabis has a 3,000 year history of safe use. It is a versatile plant with many legitimate uses and among them, as a safe, effective medication for the treatment of several conditions. There are no documented cases of lethal overdose, while a small have died from such innocuous otc drugs as aspirin.
Prohibition came about the same way most things come about in America: lies and hysteria. It was once said that it is more dangerous than heroin. The greatest propogandist for prohibition was a man named William Randolph Hearst. He owned many forests that he wanted to use to make paper for his own news papers, instead of relying on hemp fiber, which was the main source of paper making material until then. There is also Dow Chemical, which had just created synthetic fibers and found competition with hemp too much to bear. Why buy a petroleum based synthetic when an organic material is actually stronger and more durable? Cannabis prohibition is based on nothing but lies and unreality. It is and always has been safe and beneficial for a variety of purposes.
BTW: who do you think pays the most for anti-marijuana advertising you see on TV? The pharmaceutical, alcohol and tobacco industries. I really doubt they are looking out for our health. |

I think it should be legal. But I think it should be a control substance just like alcohol. |

Realize and legalize, nothing the government will stop people from smoking it, so they might as well get some tax money from it |

Hell yes it should be legalized! It won't become legalized because, anyone can grow it. People can grow it in their closets! This is people will abuse it. They'll think "Oh, why buy it from the store when i can just grow it in my closet and carry it with me in public? The cops will never know it was home grown!". It can't be controlled, therefore it won't be legalized. |

Yes, I agree with you 100%. Regulating it is the reason it is illegal. |

"I think that crime would be way down if it were legal as well."
Yes, you would be surprised how much legalizing marijuana will make the number of crimes such as possesion of a controlled substance (marijuana) and selling illegal narcotics (marijuana) go down. |

Half the people who say no need to get all of their facts straight
Yes it should
For all those people who say no
What about alcohol and cigarattes
They are leading causes of death
They are much worse than cannabis but I don't see them being made illegal |

I think it should be sold (and taxed) in the liquor stores. It would be a tremendous source of tax revenue for the federal and state governments.
It would release such a great number of prisoners who shouldn't be in jail in the first place and it would free up the judicial system and police force. |

God you people are stupid. Weed screws peoples minds up so bad. It is far worse for your lungs than anything legal. Every one of my brothers and sisters was or still is a freaking druggy and they all started with weed. All of them used to be very smart people, the ones who still smoke weed are morons now. They suffer from delusions of grandure like nobodies business. They think they are so smart, that everyone who disagrees with them is so stupid. One even said Albert Einstein "invented math" and was stupid. Weed will screw your mind. And as has been provenn by california doctors, it can't be controlled. They will prescribe it for anything there. |

I agree with Leah. Also, the whole drug issue is a mess - we created bigger problems when we began to criminalize the possession of particular substances. But modern technology has made it possible to easily attain very concentrated amounts of toxic chemicals, and for the good of the individual and the public, that must be regulated somehow. Our values must catch up to our technology! Science and philosophy need to be reintroduced to one another - I'm not talking about science and religion, but science and ethics. |

1. The government does not make drugs, phamaceutical companies make drugs
2. Marijuana is a mind-altering drug and should be illegal or at least regulated by the government like alcohol
3. The government regulates drugs to control their production and purity to make sure they are held to a quality standard and that they are tested to minimize side-effects |

No, I don't think that it should be legal.
But just give the U.S. Supreme Court a little bit more time and they will probably tell you that using it is a constitutional right. |

If marijuana were legal the prices would be much cheaper then they are right now. You would be buying it in a pack of cigarrettes instead of bags. Most of the dealers would go out of business or deal tougher drugs. Weed has THC in it which kills brain cells forever. Make you loose memory cells. As a previous user of Marijuana I know that is 100% true. Think about everyone on weed. Imagine people driving high all the time. Think about the crashes and deaths that will cause us all. It is too big of a hassle to go ahead and change the law so some kids could go out and have a fun time. |
