I am in 100% agreement that our welfare system should be reformed drastically. I also work and am in the Coast Guard and I personally hate getting into my average car at the supermarket watching a family that just used food stamps to get junk food get into their new Suburban.
I say drug test them, limit what they can get, do house calls etc. (because I know for a fact many lie on those applications) and then if they still qualify help them for limited time. If of course they can't do it or have a disability or their children do then we help. |

Able bodied people should do what I have to do...go to bloody work....there should be no hand outs! As you have stated there is a lot of community work that they could do..and they might learn something at the same time...there are far too many hangers on. |

I definately agree with you, these people who do nothing get enough money to sit around watching t.v all day. So why should we have to work for that ! They should work at least 12 hrs a week for their money. |

yeah they could do a few hrs community sevice by way of contribution if they are not going to work....some have no intention of working....apparently 1 in 5 households in the uk has someone in it who has never worked....there have got to be some ppl who are avoiding work and exploiting the benefits system....single parents often cant becuase child care is very expensive and they cant bring their kids to work with them.....so they have to stay home to look after them....that is why I think a lot more ppl would work and generate money for the country if they had cut price childcare at work or state run nurseries like they do schools....would create a lot more jobs in the nursery sector and when building them.... |

I agree with you why pay a single mum to stay at home while her children are at school and the school are paying for assistants. Why have some one stay at home when the roads need cleaning, the old peoples home needs painting, if you want a hand out work for it. I'll help any genuine person who needs help but I for one am sick of those who are scrounging because they can |

I strongly agree!
Many years ago local government used to run public construction projects for the unemployed - they would get a token wage and access to state help in return for basic labour.
These projects were very often public outdoor swimming baths, many still in use today.
While that would probably not work as well today, the only benefit for the able bodied should be job seekers allowance, and this should be withdrawn after 3 jobs have been turned down. |

those paying national insurance contributions are entitled to benefits (if and when needed) because they have already earned it, thats why you pay NI. but yes it is annoying when these days a large proportion of people have never worked and get them for free. so in those cases they should do something. i don't think this should include single parents of children under a certain age though. |

I agree with you. If they can physically work, then why are we giving them money. The system makes no sense. And you know that if you took their benefits, these people who claim they can do no work, would get a job. |

i have 2 children both under school age & i fully intend on going back 2 employment wen they r at school,
i worked full time rite up 2 the day before my daughter was born & now its not worth my while going back to work & paying a childminder.
but i worked full time for 10 years & payed taxes until my children were born so i payed enough in taxes to take some time off |

Stopping there benefits would only result in starving there children and who wants that on there conscience. Some Labour MP came up with a daft idea of kicking them out of there council houses. It'll be cheerful going shopping seeing a couple of million of men, women and children begging for food. These ideas are not practical, sorry. |

In ten years, you will be better off and they will still be mooching in a decrepit house. The benefits are just enough to live without growing or succeeding.
I don't want these people "working" anywhere they might have effects on my life. Its worth the money to keep em under the rug. |
