Imprisonment is way too excessive, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. I agree that it's awful for people who are at a physical disadvantage to be deprived of easy parking because of some selfish nut but there are also people who are not disabled but use a relatives disable badge to allow themselves to park more freely.
Maybe a better deterrent is to endorse the licence with points as opposed to dishing out fines, people don't want to accumulate points which may cause them to lose their licence so that might be better |

My husband had terminal cancer and we had a diabled badge so we could park in the bays. On a few occasions when at Morrisons perfectly healthy people used to park in our bays and I really felt like asking them if they'd like to swap good health for the terminal cancer then they could park there all they liked. My husband, kind soul, used to stop me. He died on Mother's Day last year. |

True. I know a couple of states that will fine
you $100.00 for parking in handicap spaces.
I'm sure a lot of states will cost you more than
that. But NOT going to prison! That's a little
much, don't you think? |

no.
because..so many people out there have handicapped stickers who are NOT handicapped. i've seen perfectly healthy walking people have stickers, park there and get out and walk with no problems. its abused. these should only be given to those in wheel chairs..that is the only reason. its not distance, its space.
what should happen is better monitoring of stickers Given out to people for bad reasons. |

Sledgehammer to crack a nut I think. Our prisons are already massively overcrowded. If there was one space left in prison who would you prefer to be in there. The guy who parked in the disabled bay or the beast who assaulted the OAP down the road for her pension? There are only so many spaces in prisons and these are the decisions that have to be made. |

No as its overkill and the prisons are too full, I agree with Londoner ,issue points on their driving licences ,that may well help :) |

A lorry driver that fell asleep at the wheel was jailed yesterday for killing a family of four he got 4YEARS.A £60 fine given to a charity might help more. |

In your case I think you should have been issued a temporary parking permit and for able bodied people using these spaces I think a fine is a good enough punishment. My dad had a couple of strokes 10 years ago and needs close parking to where ever. When lazy folk take a space needed by others like my dad it really annoys me. |

What a stupid idea, a great many disabled badge holders aren't even entitled to them and shouldn't be using them. I personally know people who shouldn't have them, as soon as they go out a stick and badge appear, but they are quite capable of cheating the benefits system by working on the sly. |

Good grief do u seriously think that would happen.
They cannot keep the real criminals in jail. lol.
Although it is so crazy it could happen! |

I would buy into that providing we have equal punishment for people w/a disability tag that park in nondisability parking |

I know its annoying but that is silly - what next imprisonment for people parking in the parents with children spots next |

Wow. I have to add my two cents on this topic. Our prisons are severely overcrowded as it is with people who have no respect for the law and will rape, rob, kill and steal at will. My facility is housing 2200 inmates and it was built and designed for 750.Now someone has the bright idea to incarcerate a person for illegal parking???? How about my favorite pet crime here? The firing squad for jaywalkers!!!! That will stop crossing in between and against the green. |

No, but more should be done to stop healthy people parking in disabled bays and healthy people using other peoples badges. Also if the disabled person is not going to get out of the car, the car should not be parked in a disabled bay for the healthy person to do their shopping or whatever. |

don't be silly. its wrong to do. why not just put a real criminal in jail instead of this type of merely rude behaviour . if people are caught the fine is enough

Common sense went out the window the minute liberals (i.e. pot smoking, tree hugging, hippies) began to take seats of power at the various levels of government through out the country. They can justify anything including depriving you of your rights. |
