No, it is actually another form of racism, especially since since it is only used against select groups of people. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that isn't a straight white male that will ever be charged with a 'hate crime'. |

Hate crime legislation is just a way for some people to feel good about themselves (and have others think their doing something) concerning all the supposed racism and bigotry out there. In my opinion, this cheapens the law. A crime, whether it is motivated by race or not, should be prosecuted in the same manner regardless of motivation. |

No, I do not think a hate crime especially murder should receive different punishment than a "non hate" crime.
What I mean is why is one murder less serious than another murder.
How can you kill someone with less hate, and does the dead person feel any different?
All crime should be punished, equal crime, is equal punishment.
I don't care if the killer liked the person they killed it is the same result. |

All hate crimes do is set the gaps further apart. Since when is a crime more extreme just because of skin color or some other crap? Most crimes are based on hate, regardless if it is due to racism or wanting revenge on a particular person.
All hate crime legislation does is make a person think, "I'd be eligible for parole more quickly if the person I commit a crime against is of the same race as me." |
