Who's prayer? It is my understanding Muslims must pray five times a day. What about the Buddhists, Hindu or Sikhs faith traditions? In the United States the first amendment to the constitution states that we as a country will not dictate anyone else's religious beliefs. It was so important to the founding fathers it's right there up front.
Yes, a lot of them where Christian, and they were wise enough to stay out of a faith based governance. Even Jesus said leave what is to Cesar leave to Cesar when asked about law issues.
I would like to suggest that teaching right from wrong can be done without any faith based remarks. Break social rules, you suffer consequences. It's simple and every child learns it. |

i've answered this question before......formal prayer belongs in church or any house of worship or home....formal prayer is out loud with a group of people....However, if a person must pray in the privacy of their own heart...no one can stop them nor will anyone know about it. Praying or talking to God inside your heart cannot be regulated. Nor should it be. |

well no
there are way to many differnt types of religion out there.
if you were to allow prayer in school you would have to many people claiming discrimination because their faith wasnt recognized |

As long as pop quizzes and hard tests are in schools, prayer will never end in schools...as a private act of students.
Because each person has his or her own religion, it has no place being taught or led by the school. |

Definitely Yes! There's a lot more youth crime since they took it out of the schools. I think it should be voluntary. That was schools can accommodate athiests too. |

"can be", not "should be" |

Absolutely not in public schools. It is everybody's
right to worship as you please or not worship at all. Forcing ones religion on somebody else is not right. I would go along with it if it was privet and voluntary. |

Prayer is already in schools. Students pray all the time, they just aren't led in prayer by school officials. |

Why not? I don't understand the big deal. I don't think an individual student should be forced to pray, but I don't think that schools should disallow prayer altogether. For you liberals that are crying out for "Separation of church and state," you need to realize something. "Separation of church and state" is a priciple, NOT A LAW!!! It only prevents the church from interfering with the affairs of the state (government) and the state cannot interfere with the affairs of the church. It does not mean that they must be completely isolated from one another. |

It doesn't have to be forced on anyone but it should be allowed for those who want it.I went to school many years ago with a boy who had to watch for the teachers and then sneak off a quick prayer before eating.Who was he hurting? |

If it voluntary I never saw the problem with it. If it is forced on the student body no. |

We had it in my school in england and I didn't turn out bad. God shouldn't be private or public. |

It should be allowed but not reqired. |

Why not. They let everything else go. Call it their favorite word "discrimination" that they ppl cant pray |

I think they should have a choice of prayer in every school. In my school we have a "Moment Of Silence" and that was for the 9/11 attacks, you have a choice of praying or just shutting up for a minute. So i think that since we have "Freedom"( Understand how i put freedom in quotations) you should be able to express your religion freely, being Buddhist, Catholic, Baptist..ect. |
