I don't think there should be a voting age.
Young people also have a vested interest in America, it's not like something magical happens at 18.
Instead a test to determine if the person voting knows enough about the issues and consequences of various decisions. Not an IQ test, not even written, just some mechanism to determine someone's knowledge and ability to understand politics even on the most basic level.
For example: being able to tell the difference between Republican and Conservative, or the difference between Democrat and Liberal. |

No, you don't hand children the reins of such an important decision. |

Heck no! That is just to young and at age 16 your not thinking about the whole world around you - just your world if you know what I mean. Which there is nothing wrong with they are kids and we need to let them be kids. |

No. A 16 year old doesn't have a clue what it takes to go out and work for a living and pay bills. They can't even legally notarize a contract with their signature. 18 years old is also a questionable age to vote based on the fact that they still lack sufficient experience in the real world working every day and paying their own bills. But they are allowed to fight in wars, so it's only fair. |

No. 16 yr olds do not have the life experience to enable them to choose between candidates, nor do they yet have the stake others have in the economy or the governance of the country.
Last but not least, why? Is there some evidence that there is an underlying need for such a situation? No, there is not.
Lots of things could be changed with the way people choose their government, letting 16 yr olds vote isn't one of them. |

No it should be raised to 21 at least teenagers should have to live on their own and make their own decisions pay bills, before putting their two cents into the election, how can a 16 year old make decisions on our country when they have a hard enough time trying to pick out their clothes for the day!! |

no but i do think you should have to pass some sort of United States politics test to be able to vote in the first place. i know that people vote for their own reasons whether i agree with them or not (i.e. he looks nice or went to the school i like) but it is ridiculous when they do not even understand how our government works let alone what roles each position actually has |

We should RETURN to the original idea that you must be a PROPERTY OWNER to vote.
I'm sick and tired of people who do NOT have a "vested interest" in America having a say in our elections.
These bozos who go through life with their hands out, owning NOTHING, and looking to be taken care of..... while living in the freest, most opportunity-rich nations in history... should NOT be voting. |

Heck no. I'd prefer they raise it back up to 21. As for why, if you don't already know why then no amount of explaining will help you comprehend the reasons. |
|

Cold Hard Fact
 |
Hell No.
In case you were wondering, I wouldn't support charging every 16 year old as an adult in crimes either.
Personally, I think people should have to pass a test before they are allowed to vote, and that the voting age should be raised back to 21. |

No, the voting age should be raised to 22.
The only people who should be allowed to vote and drink alcohol legally at age 18 are those in the U.S. Military with a four (4) year contract commitment.
