I believe the government is to blame for allowing kids to get the alcohol in the first place.

Oh wait, i don't have a reasonable argument to back that up!

Who can you blame if not anyone but yourself?

The only people responsible for the crime numbers to soar are the people that commit the crimes. In today's society it seems everyone is looking to blame someone else. We are all accountable for our own actions. Nobody can make anybody do anything they don't choose to do, unless maybe they have a weapon pointed at them. Our world would be so much better if people would just think. I was told as I grew up if I had to think about if something was right or wrong to do, it's probably wrong. Think about that for a moment. Doing good things makes you feel good. Doing bad things will eventually make you feel bad or get you in trouble.

Only in so much that there is no deterrent if a boozed filled person causes criminal damage or causes affray. If there was something to be frightened of then I think folk would think twice about getting into bother. Eg, charge those who cause problems, the policing and the hospital fees, and hand out tougher penalties for any wrong doing. Then it might make people think twice when they go for a drink. Other than that it is up to the individual how much they consume, 24hr opening hrs , cheap booze or not.

Yes, I think we should go back, although anyone can buy booze from the supermarket, corner shop etc. and no-one seems to care. I'm afraid you have to go back much further to sort this out. It is down to the way children are brought up. They need to be taught to respect themselves and others. Parents should teach their kids morals and what's right and wrong. Booze just makes people stupid and they think they can do anything. The government talk out of their backsides. It's obvious to any person with half a brain that allowing people to drink all day and all night is going to cause trouble!
The government just keep making up new rules instead of sorting things out. One minute they're saying hospital casualties are increasing because of people drinking too much and being hospitalised for fighting or just being too drunk, and that's causing too much strain on the NHS so the government to put up taxes to pay for it, and the next they're telling everybody to go out and drink 24/7. Get a grip!

The best way to deal with the problem is to increase the fines for the louts, Why should we all suffer for a few drunks. And yes go back to the british opening hours, after all we can not afford the over time for the police

The 24 hour opening hours have not helped the issue which was slowly getting worse. I prefer local pubs/clubs to close at 11:30 with special provision for some venues to open longer at weekends/holidays. Brits do not drink alcohol responsibly; we seem to associate a good night with the necessity of getting absolutely hammered.

No, nobody makes these people go out and get stupidly drunk, they do it to themselves. All the government could really do is make drink more expensive by increasing taxation and restricting licensing hours, and in so doing reduce access to alcohol.

Nothing to do with 24hrs licensing, the supermarkets and off licences are to blame with there cheap booze, people are getting drunk at home cheaply then going out and the pubs and clubs are being blamed

The problem has nothing to do with the government, any government, or commerce at large. The extension of opening times has had little, or no effect across the board.

The problem is simple. Our youth are enjoying the greatest affluence in our history.

Youngsters have traditionally been kept short of money, until they attain enough discretion and sense to use their spending power sensibly. Forget the so-called parental responsibility to teach youngsters the dangers of alcohol abuse! Peer pressure prevails in this case.

The comparative cost of alcohol has plummeted, wrt income, in the past 20 years. Back in the 50's and 60's spirits and beer were about double the value, in terms of disposable youth income. Moreover, beer was generally little more than half the current average strength. This was due to regulation of alcoholic content, through taxation. More powerful beers were dramatically dearer than the average 3% beers.

If the old regulations were still in force, drunkenness would not be so serious a problem as today. However, EU restrictions on such regulation means that we can do nothing about it.

Eventually our drinking culture will mature, to emulate the habits of our EU cousins.

So why does this not happen in places where you can drink from 8 in the morning until 2 or 3 the next day, without moving bars? All 24 hours if you move along the street.

And carry out costs €0.99 a litre.
