OK here's the deal. The night befor easter, my car died on me at a stoplight and i couldnt get it to start back up. A police officer came and helped me push the car to the median. I called my stepdad and he came up and tried to jump it, but since the alternator had gone bad, it kept dying again. Anyway, since it was 11:00pm and the next day was easter, we couldnt exactly fix it right then and there. So THE COP told us we could leave it there for 48 hours and THEY WOULD NOT TOW IT. we even made a special effort to push the car even further out of the road to make sure it was completely in the median. We told the cop we'd have it out of there within about a day or so. The next morning i recieved a phone call from my friend saying her mother had seen them towing my car. it had been less than 12 hours! and nobody from the county gave me any notification that my car had been towed or where they took it. we ended up calling and finding out where the car was. They charged me $200 for a tow fee and then $50 for every day i didnt pick it up. note that this was on easter so they would not let me pick it up that day. If my boyfriend hadn't been able to lend me the money, i would have had to forfeit my car because by the time i got that money the price would have doubled or even trippled. i would never have been able to get it back. I got the car back (and got it fixed) and we called and complained to the police, the shift manager, and the tow company and everyone said there was nothing they could do. Some friends and family have told me i should file a complaint with the magestrate of the county but i dont know if the case is worth fighting. what do you think???

Frankly, you have no case to fight. The officer who promised you that your car wouldn't be towed was trying to do you a favor, but doesn't have the authority to make such a guarantee. All of the other people involved simply carried out their responsibilities. It's unfortunate because your hands were tied, but you're just going to have to live with it, fair or not. |
