No, because nothing was ever "granted" to me. I have had to work jobs that made me miserable just to get by at times. Sure, a lot of Americans did grow up in rich families and never had to work for anything, but a lot more do have to work for what they have.

Yes & too many are insular as well. If it doesn't happen in your own back yard(America) then they don't know anything about it. More Americans (who can) should travel & experience more of the world.

Yes, but if you give non Americans their properties/ resources, you will NOT have this problem. We, all , will be equal.

Yes, or at least I know I did, until I joined the Military, and went to some other countries. After that I learned to appreciate what I have, which isn't really much. But its enough.

Definitely. For example, we take it for granted that we have cars, but not all people in other countries have cars. Or, gasoline. There isn't a whole lot of gasoline left in the reserves, and it will run out soon. Americans take this for granted and continue to guzzle it down.

Yes, especially the young. A good deal of them do not have a clue.

YES, definitely, but I try really hard to make a conscious effort not to -- and I'm always reminding my kids to appreciate what they have because there are a lot of kids in the world wondering when they're going to eat next. I think I've turned into one of those Moms from the fifties ("eat all your food, there are kids starving in China"). But I think that if us older generations of Americans take too many things for granted, at least we can train our children to think differently. And by the way, I don't think this idea of taking things for granted is exclusive to Americans, but probably is characteristic of any industrialized and wealthy nation. The fact that we're like this doesn't make us bad people either, it's just part of human nature and psychology. But we do need to make more of an effort to appreciate what we have.

Of course, you dont really know what you have until its gone. I watch people in third world countries living in huts on TV, and its amazing to me, sometimes I forget that there are places like that.

Absolutely. All it takes is to go to the store and find empty shelves or no gasoline at the station or turn on the faucet and no water comes out for the feeling of panic to set in and only then do we realize how much we depend on everything to run like clockwork around here. Hell, even the homeless have grown accustomed to certain things in this country.

No not really. What we have in this country is ours by birth right. We have a Constitution and laws to live by. We have a our own language, history etc. They are ours.

I think a lot of Americans do. Sometimes when people have everything they do not understand what it is like to be thankful and only want more materialistic things instead of being content with things that used to be prime, such as, our family and health.
