My wife and I always wear our safety belts. It's literally saved my wife's life on one occasion, and saved me from serious injury on another. I can't count how many of my friends have been saved from serious injury or death by their safety belts.
If you or your daughter aren't 100% sold on the idea purely for safety reasons, racing legend Jackie Stewart pointed out another advantage: a safety belt gives your body more feedback on how the car is handling when driving it aggressively. I'd have to agree with him on that point as well. |

In Florida it is the law. I did it even before the law was passed. Statistically you are safer. |

It's common sense. |

Yes,
it's the law here & I don't need any tickets. |

Yes. Always. Whenever I'm in any vehicle that has them.
It gets to be habit after a while, it's not uncomfortable or anything, and it boosts your chances of surviving an accident immensely. I've heard stories about car crashes where nearly everyone was killed, but the one person who was wearing a seat belt walked away from it.

It's a law here in PA. But I would wear it even if it wasn't a law. My seatbelt saved my life 2 years ago, I don't go around the block without it. |

I make it a practice to read the newspaper accounts of accidents in which people died out loud for my grandson's benefit. "ejected from vehicle" means wasn't wearing seatbelt.
there's usually one or two every day here in Miami, FL area, seatbelt law notwithstanding.

when I was a teenager, my father got a hold of some very graphic photos of actual wrecked vehicles -- I remember two of them. number one was a hole in the passenger side windshield about 7 inches in diameter -- someone's head went through there as they died. number two was a front end collision -- the car was pancaked from the bumper to the front door, just crushed flat. driver walked away because he was wearing a seatbelt. [this was before airbags.] |

It is the law in Kentucky. I always wear one due to the fact I have a scar that runs down the entire side of my head from a car accident that I wouldn't have if I had been wearing my seat belt... |

I started wearing a seatbelt in 1965, when I bought my 2nd car. The previous owner had them installed and I thought they were a novelty.
We only had lap belts, back then, and they were optional; they were an additional cost, when purchasing a car. So was air-conditioning, automatic shifting, white-walls and FM radio.
It's the law in Florida. |

It is law both in the state I am in and my home state... I know a lot of people who dont support them and say the gov has no right to force you to where one and that seat belts also cause injury.
Well, yes, they do cause injury but they also save lives. The potential postives out weigh the potential negatives of wearing one. I was in a wreck myself that would have killed me had I not been wearing a seat belt and so was my mother in law. Yes, the seat belt bruised me and I got skin burns from the air bag. But thats a small price to pay to still be alive. With my mother in law, she broke a couple ribs, but again, small price to pay to be alive.
I FULLY support all seat belt laws. Yes, you have the right to do whatever you want to your own body. However, seat belt usage also goes directly into calculating our insurance costs. Your right to want to not wear a seat belt really kinda ends when I have to pay several hundred dollars more in my insurance. |

I do because I do not want a ticket or teach my kids bad ideals. However, I never use to when I was younger as I was an EMT for 12 years and I seen wrecks both saved and hurt worse by seatbelts. My pet peeve is when the Government stepped in to make everyone wear seatbelts or Highway money was taken from the state. My thoughts and I do apologize ahead of time is.. Motorcycle drivers should have mandatory helmet laws.. if everyone driving a car or truck needs to "Buckle-up..". During those 12 years as an EMT - I seen several fatalities involving Motorcycles that might have had a chance if they had helmets on... |

it is a law in south dakota. it is also a primary offense meaning that if there is nothing else wrong with your driving, a seatbelt violation is enough cause to pull you over. i wear mine every ride, every time. it just doesn't make sense not to. if a piece of nylon will up my chances of making it out of a crash alive, then so be it. |

It is the law here in Delaware, but I usually don't anymore.
I know you should, in case of a car crash, but I don't put one on when I really trust the driver.
Like with my mom, she's been driving since forever so she is pretty good.
& there was that one time, and a friend of mine was driving a couple of us home but I couldn't get the seat belt out of the crack...
But I know I should, and I used to all the time, but I really don't see the point in doing it every single time.
Knowing me, it'll be the times that I don't, that I really needed to. |

I wear one when I'm driving to and from town. When I'm driving around town doing my shopping or whatever, then I don't. Unless my kids are with me, then I always do. |

Every time anyone gets into my car they need to buckle up. I have taught my kids that from day one. The car doesn't move until everyone is properly buckled. One of my daughters totaled the "teen" car not long after we got it for them. She was not suppose to have passengers in the car. It was one of our rules since she just got her license. She didn't listen and that night she ran into a light pole head on, totaled the car, and her and her friend were rushed to the hospital. Everyone thankfully turned out fine, but the police officer sternly explained if they hadn't been wearing their seat belts they would have been killed. The one thing my daughter listened to after years of preaching about seat belts was she made her friend put on her seat belt (who didn't want to) or she wasn't going to go anywhere. Thank goodness for that, it literally saved their lives!!!!!!! Yes, BTW, it is the law in our state as well. Even if it wasn't, our family would still wear seat belts. |
