Does Crimewatch sometimes send out wrong messages?
|
having just watched crimewatch it gave me the impression that if i were to produce £6 million in forged notes the longest sentence i would get would be 4 years. As an unskilled worker i earn and have earned between £10k and £25k a year on average over the last 30 years ,in a lifetime of work i may just about earn a million.Forgive me for suggesting that crime appears to pay but one of a gang of six who was involved in forging such an amount received a suspended sentence. If there is to be a deterrent to crime where is it.Not to mention Crimewatch's guide on how to steal a lorry load of goods. Additional Details Phil, they got caught,if everybody got caught there would be no crimewatch and don,t forget the suspended sentence!

It gives me ideas, especially when I know you only ever serve half the sentence the courts give you. Long gone are the days when crime doesn't pay, it's the honest who lose out these days. Just look at what has happened to the banks.
Phil and Ben are so naive. |

Your assumption is that in addition to the four years you would get your 6 million, But what would happen is all forged notes would be destroyed AND anything you own or possess that is result of passing them would be forfeited, along with being ordered to pay restitution to those defrauded... so you would not end up better. |

I saw this. Phil's correct in what he says. Also, don't forget how old they were, and age is a mitigating factor when passing sentence. When they come out of prison, what will they have? Nothing.
What is naive about mine or phil's answer, how does either answer show lack of understanding? |

I often think that about fraud cases, especially when you hear of people selling counterfeit goods and making ££££'s, or claiming benefits illegally, and then getting 2 years. It's almost worth doing......
I guess the way to think about it is: Live a life with peace of mind, don't rip anyone off, don't take advantage of anyone. It's the wrong thing to do, so don't do it. Have a clear conscience and be happy instead.
And I think the new-style Crimewatch is a disgrace. In an age where violent crime is common place and youth thuggery is a real problem, it's bad enough to have TV crime dramas that make murder and violence exciting and entertaining, without having seious programmes like Crimewatch doing the same thing. The 'new look' with highly dramatic and sensationalist scenes not to mention atmospheric music, makes it more of an 'entertainment' piece than a serious reporting of incidents. |
