When I received a bill from my GYN for a procedure she performed, I was upset to see a pregnancy test on there. My husband died a couple of years ago. But even if I were seeing someone - my last period was 5 years ago. Is this test required by law? Until I'm what, 70 or 80 years old?
$25 a pop (and I'm sure the amount will go up) comes to $500 or more over the course of the next 20 years. Do all GYNs in Virginia do this?

It will depend on the procedure. If, for example, she were doing a D&C, she would be required to to a pregnancy test first to show that the D&C was not in fact an abortion. If she was taking a pap smear, then it wouldn't be. I'm also sure that the law allows her to dispense with the test if you're clearly not of childbearing age.
