I've become disabled and I've a rear-age of $10,000.00,owed to my x-wife,not the state nor the federal gov.,just my x-wife. Our youngest is 23 yrs.old. Do I still have to pay this rear-age? Please explain,and give advice?

I believe you mean "arrears." If your disability occurred when you were up to date with payments, you may be able to go before a judge and have your payments adjusted or waived. Otherwise, you are going to be stuck with the payments, even if you declare bankruptcy. |

Yes, you still owe the arrears. The only person who can waive the arrearages is the mother and if she wants her money, the case will remain open. If you are disabled, they can intercept money from disability. Child support arrears is one debt that does not go away. The age of the child is irrelevant. |
