I find it embarrassing for my employer to know all about my personal health problems even if I am off for a day or two I have to fill in a form stating why I was off, Is this legal in the UK?

Yes. Most employers will carry out a back to work review and make a note of why you were off sick. They have to ensure that you are fit to work and that there are no ongoing health and safety issues that they will have to address. They also need to ensure that you are not off repeatedly for the same reason as this could raise concerns over working practises. |

They need to know in general terms, if only to be sure that you are not suffering from an infectious or contagious illness. Doctors are aware of what constitutes an embarrassing and potentially damaging health problem and can word the certificate in a diplomatic way. You can do likewise. "Stomach upset", for example, could cover a number of things. |
