Find answers to your legal question.

Does anyone know if its illegal to park in front of your own driveway?

Unfortunately renters moved in next door and they have about 12 people residing there. They consistently park in front of the driveway and block it. It looks very trashy and they don't speak English. We live in a nice neighborhood and they are making it look bad. Any suggestions?

These are the rules in the city that I live. You cannot park in front of any driveway ever whether it is in front of your house or not. In this city, the driveway begins in the parkway. You have the street, curb, parkway, sidewalk and the 1st 2 feet of your front yard belonging to the city. You are blocking access to public property and it is not your property. It has to due with safety and also handicapped people prefer to walk on a slop instead of stairs. Remember, it is public property. You do not pay taxes on it. It is not yours. This happened to my neighbor and he lost in court and had to pay a $50.00 fine. Just a note: Some communities do not permit pick up trucks to be parked in driveways at all! It was a posh neighborhood and they lost in court.

Okay, I don't quite understand what you did wrong. Everyone is saying stuff about being racist, whatever. If I lived in a neighborhood like that and they hadd so many cars, I would call it in to the police and have them come and check it out. I mean, if you spent so much money on a home and have so many cars out there, I would be a bit mad as well. But, I thought they had to have a permit or something to have so many cars in the road. It won't hurt to check with the police. I thought it was illegal to block any driveway.

Oh, yeah, people: Not everyone is as racist as you think they are. Maybe you are the racist one, you ever think of that??? Maybe you are only defending these people because they aren't caucasian.

Get over yourselves. It was just a question.

Depending on the local ordinances, it may well be illegal to park blocking a driveway, even if it is your own. Contact your local police department and ask the supervisor there what the law is in your jurisdiction.

If it is illegal, ask that they keep a watch on your street and ticket any car that is parked that way. Be sure that you have all your cars parked legally, because when they come with the ticket book out, they will be writing up every violation they see.

Note: You may also see it there is a local ordnance about the number of occupants allowed in a rental property. 12 people living in a rental home may violate local laws and / or fire codes.

parking regulations are local, not universal. Calll your local cops or parking enforcement agency or the city attorney and ask, or, just go to city hall or the local library and read your local ordinances.

Move to another neighborhood if those less fortunate than you make you feel as if you look bad. Not everyone can be as clean and together
as you are, Especially in the state of our economy. Good luck finding a place where there are no poor.

If yoo have an HOA it might cover this also if they are blocking YOUR have them towed.
