Does anyone know what would happen (legally) if a 20 year old fought a 17 year old?

The aggressor is the person who is charged. There is no special age issue in fights.
If it is mutual combat it is not going to get filed. I have never seen a statute that makes battery age specific, except where the charges would be filed.

a 20 year old is looked at as an Adult in criminal cases. The 17 year old is still a minor. What happens depends on who started the fight, what happened it the fight, was a weapon used and many things. To anwer your question I would need to know a lot more on the subject. Sorry

he would go to jail just the same as the 17 year old. guess it depends what state you live in and the laws in in that state.

Legally the age thing isnt the whole problem it's the assault charges that will be brought up against the person. Depending on which state it is a misdemeanor and punishable with jail time, fines....etc..
and depending upon if any kind of a weapon was used it would be a felonious assault which could result in prison

it depends if its a gun fight or something then jail time 4 u, if its an argument nothing but a punch-u-punch-me thing, it would prob be the same if 2 20 year olds fight, which i dont really know what... sorry

search 2903.13. that is the code for assault in Ohio. Maybe you can find something there. It does not mention 17 versus 20. It just talks about degrees of assault. It talks about the aggressor. At 17 you can be charged as an adult so you may be treated as one..

You both go to jail till someone comes and bails u out most likely the 17 year old while get out that night but some parents dont care and in my state 17 is an adult when it comes to the law

If the fight were physical beyond pushing and shoving, meaning one or both got hurt, both could theoretically be charged with the crime of assault. If the police decided one started the fight and the other was defending himself, only the instigator of the fight would be charged.

The law would not automatically assume the 20 year old was at fault. Or for that matter the 17 year old. It would depend on the evidence.

The 17 year old would be a juvenile under the law of most States, whereas the 20 year old is an adult under the law. The adult criminal system is a whole lot less touchy-feely than the juvenile system. Assuming both were equally responsible, the 17 year old would likely not be punished as severely as the 20 year old.

I don't know. I think it would depend on which state, and local municipality you're in.

The only way a 20 year old could hit a 17 year old is in self defense.
Otherwise, the 20 year is an adult and would be charged with assaulting a minor.
Also, if the 20 year old goads the 17 year old into taking the first swing, the law is still going to side with the minor.

If they didn't know who started it, it would depend if the 17 year old pressed charges. I don't think that a 20 year old can press charges against the 17 year old, but maybe probation could happen for either party?

They can both get arrested and both press charges on each other. But if one of them is just defending them selves the person who starts it will me charged with battery and probably be put in jail. If it is just a random fight the 17 year olds parents will probably be brought down to the station the 20 year old will probably get arrested.

im not really a lawyer to know this but the 20 year old could really get into some deep crap. as for the 17 year... if they say the right things then they'll be rich soon :]

Nothing if the 17 yo hits the 20 yr old first. Then it's self defense. But I think there'd be trouble if the 20 yo starts it seeing that she's over age. Make the 17 yo hit you first then beat her down.
