Does cancellation of DVD releases violate consumer rights?

Lets assume that a TV series had a total of 12 series, series 1-7 are released on DVD then the producers officially pull the plug on further releases citing poor sales.
I know it's not fair, but does it actually violate any consumer regulations since people will continue buying seasons 1-7 which are still produced and sold.

Of course it doesn't.
It is a commercial by the company/distributor.
It is perfectly within their "rights" to do so.
No different than stopping production of a range of cars or cameras or anything else. |

No, they can do whatever they want with their property. You don't have a right to see anything unfortunately. I can't see how it would violate consumer regulations. They have the right to release what they want when they want it. |

Your Consumer rights are only to cover you for any goods you purchase which are found to be faulty, or not fit for the purpose.
Ant company has the right to end production of any article without prior notice. |

No. If enough people buy episodes 1-7, and they want the remaining episodes, the company very well may decide to release them. Otherwise, there are no consumer rights as tho what is releases and what is not. Only if you prepaid for the dropped episodes will you have any type of rights, and all you probably will get is a refund. |

Anyone who had recorded them off the airwaves originally would already have a complete set, for free, for their personal use anytime. Anyone else can write polite letters requesting permission to make a copy. If they get enough letters they might open up to producing a limited edition (which can be expensive), with pre-paid commitments. |

Yes.
Put simply, "pulling the plug" means that all forms of that intellectual copyright have been removed from the public consciousness.
They should at least release a few copies of the other series so that we can burn them onto computers and use them for computer piracy.
If it's poor sales, they've should not have a leg to stand on where this is concerned. |
