I am making a fun little website and decided to do a book review segment. In this segment I will give info such as author, tiitle, number of pages, genre, publishing house, date of publication and I will allow visitors to review and rate what ever book I review for that week.
Will this... supplying... of information in anyway violate the copyright law of the material?
The only example I can think of is www.imdb.com. They give tons of information on movies.
Does this violate any copyright laws?
Also, what credit do I need to give about the work and its author/publisher and how would I do that?

As long as you're not putting the book in it's entirety out on the internet, you're not violating any copyright laws. As you stated you're putting the author and publication information, that's you're crediting information. As long as you state that it's not your work and you give the name of said author, you're good on your crediting. If book reviews were illegal, we'd have no education system. They'd all be getting sued for copyright infringement. |

You would be fine. Lots of sites have this, and there are no problems. I belong to Multiply.com (a social networking site like MySpace), and they have a "review" section that you can review books, movies, CD's, items you purchase, and many other things. |
