me and my friend were both caught shoplifing at kohls a few weeks ago. us both being underage we were charged with a misdeminor. i got my letter this week of the date of my upcomming court hearing. my friends mom said she could take us but does my mom have to come? i dont remember the police saying it was mandatory but i just want to make sure so i can get this all over with. oh and i live in illinois.

it doesnt say anything about it on the letter. but my mom does know about it.

Shame on you! I do hope that being caught is going to turn you around. As for your Mom going, I think she should whether it is mandatory or not. Believe me, if she doesn't the judge will probably chastise you and tell you that you are in this predicament because your parents don't care. You should pay for what you stole, return it to the store and apologize to everyone who works there. When you steal something, prices go up, salaries go down and it's rough on everyone. Grow up! |

Generally, yes. It should say so on the letter from the court. If not, the court's phone number is probably on it and you can call them to check. |

It wil be Better for you if she does. If she is not there the judge will feel you are not being properly parented and may send you to foster care or Juvie. Neither by the way are fun been there done that.
Your Mom needs to be there so you show you have parenting and that they are backing you up and punishing you for the poor judgment on Your part.
