I'm doing a debate over universal health care, and i was wondering if it would be against the constitution if USA does NOT provide universal health care...???

The Constitution was written to preserve liberty and to minimize government, as our Forefathers recognized that government, at best, is a necessary evil.
The Constitution defines a democratic republic. Universal Health Care is pure socialism, the opposite of a democratic republic.
Being bound to an oversized debt-ridden bureaucracy such as our government for health care is the opposite of liberty.
To those who feel they are entitled to things purely because their wonderful self is on this earth, and feel they should be comfortable and cared for (because of it), the Constitution is outmoded. Look at Pancho..."Not much happening in this nation is in the Constitution. So what?" Yeah, so gov't's violating the Constitution by declaring eminent domain on private property so they can get more tax money. So what? So government is putting all kinds of constrictions on the Second Amendment, so that only those with guns illegally obtained will still have them. So what? So the Fourth Amendment against illegal search and seizure doesn't mean much in the light of Nopalitano's DHS. So what? Freedom wasn't only for colonists, Paunchy.
The Constitution guarantees the right to work for a better life, aka "The pursuit of Happiness". But having anything handed to you at another's expense, be it health care, housing, food, material goods is not a right. It is "theft", or as one Kenyan socialist reformer put it, "redistribution of wealth." But, it's never viewed as theft by those on the receiving end. To them, it's something they're entitled to.
As Winston Churchill put it, the inherent evil of capitalism is that not all people are treated equally. The inherent evil of socialism/communism is that all (except the leaders) suffer equally. |

The opening paragraph of the Constitution:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.''
In a broad interpretation, you could argue that universal health care falls under the category of "the general Welfare." Therefore, it would not be UNconstitutional for the government to guarantee universal health care. On the other hand, the Constitution does not specifically require the government to provide it, either. |

Unless we get a handle on health care there will be, either, an accelerated die off or we go to a one-payer system It must be decided now. Rich people can always augment their luxury health care. If nothing is done quickly, there will be violence. |

No. The Constitution does not even mention health care.
At the time the Constitution was written the concept of health care was unknown.
There was, in fact, very little in the way of medical care at all.
It wasn't until we started using hospitals that infectious diseases such as childbirth fever became scourges. |
