Not yet. It is a changing area of law. Think it is state by state. a lot (?) of states can collect DNA once you've been convicted of a felony.
I just read of a lawsuit challenging a new law that DNA could be collected if you were simply arrested, not convicted of anything.
I think the line should be drawn at having DNA files only on those people convicted of serious felonies. Otherwise, it's the govt just collecting identity files on everyone and infringing on privacy. It will be abused. |

Not yet. Right now, in most states, the states are collecting DNA samples only from those person convicted of felonies. |

Not yet but its coming. A number of states are going to begin taking DNA from everyone arrested. Doesn't matter if it was for littering, or tresspassing. Doesn't matter if you are found innocent, they are going to keep it anyway. I worked for a company that did it under the guise of drug testing. They said in addition to a urine test, we need a hair sample also. Drug testing hair is very expensive, it is also redundant, there are no drugs that show up in hair that do not show up in urine. Hair contains DNA, urine does not. In less than 10 years DNA will be taken @ birth. They will then be able to frame anyone, with anything @ anytime. |

There is no data base of everyone. DNA collection and retention practices differ by jurisdiction. At most, DNA is collected and retained for convicts. |
