Shaun Dykes. 17 committed suicide on Saturday afternoon by jumping off a 60ft building in front of a 300 strong crowd.
Shaun Dykes, before he jumped injured taunts and abuse from members of the crowd who encouraged Shaun Dykes to jump while taking pictures and filming this tragedy in progress.
After Shaun Dykes did jump a crowd of people rushed to his body to take more videos. And in doing so showing absolutely no remorse for what they had done.
'Police said none of those who were shouting at him were actually committing an offence.'

I feel absolutely sick to the teeth to think that this happened in the country where I live.
It's a sick indictment on our society that people think this tragedy is some from of entertainment. And worse that it's not a crime.
I want to live in a country were people serve custodial sentences when they treat suicide as a form of entertainment but apparently, unfortunately I don't.
Surely condemnation and disgust at this incident is not enough if we want to cut the rising number of people who feel so lonely and hopeless they're taking their own lives. Why is the Law so useless to act when the lives of very vulnerable people are at stake? Additional Details Bo P.
There is a huge difference between people's fascination with death and actively encouraging a person to take there own life for the sole purpose of entertainment.
Do you believe those people who shouted "How far can you bounce?" did nothing wrong?
I have no problem with a morbid curiosity this is not what the above story was about.
As for there being far more reasons for people committing suicide than feeling lonely and hopeless could you list them? Because besides mental illness I can't think of one.

This post is not meant to be an attack on the UK. There are plenty of things I love about this country, but the state's reaction to this (no matter if it happens in every other country in the world) is not good enough IMHO.

Yeah, Soul Jacker - sad indeed, but there is much in the UK to feel depressed about. Here's another form of 'entertainment' which made people (usually families of such victims) disgusted...deaths of black men in custody - be they charged or not with any crime, intimidation of Irish (in England) during the last century, and ignorance of children in care homes who had been systematically abused...best stop there, methinks! |

You think that's bad?
A while ago a man called Jeremy Strohmeyer raped and murdered a nine year old girl in the toilet at a Nevada casino. His friend, David Cash, saw him follow the little girl into the bathroom, and after a few minutes followed him in. He climbed up on a toilet seat to look over the stall partition, and saw Strohmeyer raping her. Instead of doing anything, he just went back to his table. When Strohmeyer came out, Cash asked him what had happened, and he admitted that he'd killed her.
Not only could no crime be found to charge Cash with after he just left the little girl to be raped and murdered, the University of California couldn't even find a legal basis on which to strip him of his taxpayer funded scholarship. Even worse, during Strohmeyers trial, Cash bragged to a local radio station that his "fame" as the guy who'd seen the crime actually being committed was making it really easy to 'get lucky' with girls on campus.
Cash is now a licensed nuclear engineer.

It is certain that you will get responses from some that will agree with what happened. Yahoo attracts them.
As the father of a teenage son, I would hunt those scum down and willingly give up my own liberty to make them suffer for the rest of their miserable lives. And believe me...it WOULD be miserable.
This story made me feel physically sick when I heard it. As for the so called police...sack the lot of them and strip them of any pension rights. All they do is aid and abet criminal activity. |

S'just people, not necessarily Brits. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, what goes around definitely comes around eventually though. Sometimes I look at Americans & wonder if they've got a much better attitude, culture seems much more open & humanitarian. I don't think the law really comes into this.
And what are you suggesting? That we become like one of those countries where nobody is allowed to say anything? It's already bad enough with the level of political correctness in the UK. He had a choice, he made the wrong decision, he let heartless sick morons get to him. Least he had that choice. |

surely you have seen examples of this every day and anywhere you travel/ live in the world that people treat others lives with disregard. i cant believe its come as much surprise to you, if it has, you have lived a VERY sheltered life.
"Surely condemnation and disgust at this incident is not enough if we want to cut the rising number of people who feel so lonely and hopeless they're taking their own lives."
people take their lives for far more reasons than they feel "lonely and hopeless"
" Why is the Law so useless to act when the lives of very vulnerable people are at stake?"
Law? Law for what? MAKING PEOPLE CARE? making people not hopeless? what law are you referring to? law about not goading people?
"I want to live in a country were people serve custodial sentences when they treat suicide as a form of entertainment but apparently, unfortunately I don't."
there isnt a place in this world that exists like that. face it, people find death fascinating, people watch murder mysteries, or shows about murders, executions used to be made public, why do you think people slow down when there is an accident on the motorway? to see if the guy is ok? to help? no, curiousity. there is a human inclination to be fascinated with death and things we dont understand.
many people lose there lives daily because of chances they take or choices they make, even if its as simple as crossing the road. if this guy was going to kill himself he would do it alone or with a million people watching. being pumped up with drugs in some psych hospital would probably not make a difference, it does not make people less "vulnerable" in fact it probably makes them more suicidal. doctors are not paid to CARE they arent PAID to make you less lonely, however, very few people actually kill themselves for those reasons, or half the population would be dead.
you cant pass a law to make people care about others, everyone would be in jail. |

Taking the videos afterwards sounds like the people of Gaza who mutiliate the dead bodies and then everyone rushes to take photos with their cellphones and in Iraq where the male family members with a mob murdered a young girl by throwing cement blocks at her and the mob scambled to take photos of it.
Immigration and multiculturalism is bringing the third world culture to us. |

Um, I'm pretty sure that could have happened anywhere--UK or otherwise.
I wouldn't want to live in the UK, just because I'm an American and I think that having a monarchy is stupid, even if they technically have "no political sway." They do. They're born into being celebrities. For instance, if the queen makes a speech, everyone in the country will hear it because it will be on TV. If I made a speech, my teacher would just tell me to shut the hell up.
That is not fair, so that is why I would not live in the UK. At least in America you have to work to be well-known. |
