Very much depends on where you live. In some places, laws regarding marijuana have been relegated to the "lowest priority" for law enforcement, essentially decriminalizing home consumption.

In California, there are lawful ways to consume Marijuana, but it's not as simple as just doing it at home. Usually, it has to be prescribed and from a legal source.

The way I look at it, you can do whatever the hell you want at home, just don't get caught.

This is true in Santa Cruz California, the cops feel there are more serious offenders out there other than a bunch of giggling pot heads.

it is still considered illegal, but like they said, there are more important crimes out there. The chance of still being arrested for smoking it in your home are still there... but not a priority for the authorities to deal with.

just because you hear it on TV doesn't mean that that is how the police and courts see the issue.

Also, there are TONS of people in jail for marijuana smoking, selling, crack use, etc - and there were plenty of more important crimes when they were arrested, too.

No it means its illegal, but that the police arent gonna go knocking down your door to find out if your smoking it or not. They have more important stuff to do.

Well you can't grow it yourself, you're not using it medicinally and if you buy from a dealer that illegal too... oh yeah you can be high on weed and still be under the influence if you in public walking, driving or in appearance or attendance. They got you my friend in a Catch 22!

Sorry to break it to you, but no. It just means that the police have more important things to do than to check people's houses to see if they are smoking pot. But I guess that really does mean that you can just as long as a cop doesn't really find out.

well if you get caught, im sure there is more than a 90% chance that you will get probation or something, but the police arnt going to waste their time arresting you, plus how can, u get caught in your own house, the police have to have a warrent to go in your house. i know tons of people who got caught smokin but they didnt get arrested, they just got like a year and a half probation and drug tests like every week.....just do it smart, dont get caught

The new's statement was obvisouly claiming that if you are smoking a joint at home then it will reduce the amount of 'hight & drunken' behaviour than it would if you werre high and in the street.

the loophole is that its NOT illegal to consume marijuana, but its illegal to possess it...catch 22.

Private property is also respected by the law to an extent. If the weed is undetectable from outside the premisis then there is no just cause to suspect illegal activity.

It's still a crime. However, if you're busted then you're not likely to get a prison sentence. You'll maybe get a citation and a super expensive fine to pay... Either way, the offense will be on your record.
