Drinking age in the States?

All states have 21 as their drinking age. It is up to the statest o decide drinking age, but the federal government withholds funding for highways if the age isn't raised to 21 one. So much for choice.

Its 21, in 1983 President Reagan encouraged the country to raise the legal age of consumption for all spirits to 21 and included federal highway funds to that as a way of getting the states to comply.

I remember this, it was my senior year and I helped organized a day where the students did a sit in. We could vote, serve our country, go to prison, but we were having our decision taken away to consume legally.

THe drinking age is actually set by the states, BUT...Congress has the power to withhold Federal highway money if a state does not set their minimum age at 21.

So a state could set it at 18 if they wanted, but then they wouldn't get any money to improve their roads.

It's 21 in all states. A few years ago Louisiana rolled it back to 18, but that didn't last very long.

i believe that it is 21 in MOST states, because there is a federal/government thing that says if a state wants to make the age 18 (or whatever else), then they dont get federal funding for highways, which is pretty hefty and important. so i believe all states have the age set at 21, except hawaii maybe (because what do they care about interstate highways anyway lol)

21 here in Illinois. I was in Hawaii in 1984 and it was 18, but don't know if it still is or not. I kind of doubt it.

I think it's 21 all over the states. and i completely agree with emelia - if you are allowed to fight and die for your country at the age of 18 you should be allowed to have a beer too
