I can't find an answer to who I should call about this. I live in the Buffalo, NY area and worked a week and a half at a job. I quit expectantly due to poor and dangerous work conditions, the job just was not right for me. I should have been paid last Thursday but still have not received my check, I requested she mail it to me. I live 5 minutes from there and it obviously should not take 7 days to get here. WHO do I call? The labor relations board deals with unions only it looks like and I can't imagine calling NYS and actually getting anywhere. Is there something local I can call?
Additional Details
I emailed/called the owner 2 days ago and no response. This was a small business so she was the only person, no manager or anything. NYS law says I should have been paid by my regular pay day which would have been last Thursday.

Call your immediate supervisor to see if the check has already been mailed to you.
If it has, but you have not received it yet, the employer may need to stop payment and issue you a replacement check.
If the company refuses to pay you, file a claim for unpaid wages with the NYS Department of Labor.

I live in California and I know here that when you quit a job they are to pay you all wages owed within 72 hours or 3 working days. They have that amount of time to get the check in the mail to you or notify you that it is at the job site for you to pick up. Have you called your old employer to find out if they have the check there? If not, that is what needs to happen first. If they do not have your check request that they get you one immediately. If they refuse or give you some excuse it will take a week or two, call the labor relations board and find out what the laws are for NY and file a complaint if they have gone beyond the time-line of the law.
