It has been over 2 Months since I moved out of that awful place.
These people never gave me renter receipts or a copy of the lease.
When I signed the lease it was open. I just got a copy in the mail, finally, and I see that they added an end date (May 15 09) along with a whole bunch of new rules. The 09 is in different writing and they claim it is my handwriting.
These people claim that I owe them over $1,000! And say I need to pay them compensation for a water bill. My rent included all utilities.
I had a leaky bathtub faucet that didn't leak that much until way later. I always fixed it the best I could. Eventually the landlord fixed it. . .when I wasn't home. I didn't get a notice or anything.
Anyway these people want to take me to court. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this picture?
Since I didn't get a lease while living there they can't use it in court right? They even admitted that they didn't give me a copy.
I've heard that they could get a petty misdemeanor. I don't know what that means exactly. Do you think I could sue for all of my money back?

This lease is for Minnesota.
I signed the lease and so did my landlord.
My landlords father threatened to kill my dog.
I had a mental breakdown, and went to the hospital. I called the cops and got nowhere.
When I got back from the hospital I said that I wanted to move out. My landlord said I had to because I called the cops on his dad.
It was a mutual agreement that the lease would end at the end of January.
It was an open lease when I signed it. I never got a copy until now. The landlord has to give a copy of the lease within 10 days of it being signed. The landlord will not be able to use the lease in court.

You did not mention what state you lived in. A lease is a contract. And contracts must bear the signature of all parties to be valid.
May 15th is next month, but you have already moved two months ago. Did you give notice that you intended to move? Did you move within a reasonable time (Usually 30 days) after giving the notice?
The landlord may be entitled to recover portions of unpaid rent, say you told them you would move on the first, and moved on the 15th. The landlord would be entitled to 15 days rent.
You say your utilities were included in the rent. Does the 'new' agreement show that? If not, can you get a written statement from any of the current tenants that they do not pay extra or include extra money in their rents to cover water?
Also, do you have a copy of your new rent or lease agreement? this may show proof in small claims court that you moved. It will be your testimony that convinces the judge.
I don't know what small misdemeanor is either, but generally, you cannot be charged with a criminal complaint over debt unless its fraud of some kind.

My ex landlord keeps asking who i bank with cause i had some bank issues that messed up paying rent. Cause the debit charge was unauthorized and im waiting on a refund. He says he knows many people in banking and could have it expidited. Sure we owe him money, i feel thats to personal. Hes also persistent on getting my fiancees probation officers number.
