I agree - or at least only sell to people who have had training and hold a license of some sort.
Too many teens running around with bangers. |
|

NOT TELLING YOU LOL

yes they shoul only be used for public displays, not in peoples back gardens
and idiots setting them off in the streets, people and anilmals get hurt, the goverment should no all this by now |

I agree that fireworks should be stopped from sale in shops.
Organised firework displays are far safer and much better value. Every year we hear about people getting hurt and burnt by careless use of fireworks.
OK so it will not stop all accidents from happening but it will cut down on a lot.
As long as they sell fireworks in shops children will carry on getting hurt from careless use.
I love fireworks but will only take my children to organised events, call me boring I don't care, at least I am taking a responsible approach. |

Well said. Get a petition going and I'l be the first ti sign. I've got to send the kids to the grandparents' tomorrow because it's like the blitz round here and they get terrified. Ban them now. |

what and loose all that money...fireworks should only be done at organised events, and the public should not be ripped off either!! |

hehe....ask american government. it's illegal in most states to do fireworks without special permit. |

Many, many years ago when I was a teenager, we used to laugh about putting a "banger" through someones letterbox. At that time the consequences of such an action meant it never happened. Society has changed, not fireworks. If you want to ban something choose parents who show no responsibility the right to breed. |

I'm for banning irresponsible use. |
|

Well then why not just ban them altogether? U cant hav 2 sets of rules. People will go on abusing them so perhaps an outright ban would be better |

I'm not against the sale of fireworks for public use, because the people who use them irresponsibly are just the sort of morons who, if they couldn't legally buy safe, tested fireworks from a reputable shop, would go down the market and buy dodgy, illegal dangerous fireworks off the seedy "geezers" down there - and you'd end up with far more cases of people being injured or killed by fireworks.
Lets face it, idiots want to make a noise, they'll find a way of doing it legal or not! Making things illegal never stopped people from doing them! |

think of the other side of the argument - if you were to celebrate a birthday, would you like ppl complaining about the noise, just relax and look at how beautifull and amazing all the bright lights are. it isnt bonfire niight yet but still just enjoy life and dont worry about changing the law.

I would ban private use, and keep public use. |

Hard to believe that in a nanny state where you have to wear goggles to play conkers you can walk into a shop and buy what are basically explosives. Weird. |

yep, as you say its only the 3rd of Nov an fireworks are being let off, they have been here since the weekend, Fireworks should not be sold to the public anymore, as like most things shopkeepers shouldn't sell to kids, there are some that do many a child is injured by fireworks, every year, no longer does the government show the firework advert that was shown when i was a kid warning of the dangers of playing or going near fireworks, its time that fireworks where for organised displays only, |

i agree with you ..fireworks should just be sold to organised displays only....they are a waste of money and a danger to children and pets...not to mention the heartache the pensioners go through this time of year......but the government wont ban them because of the money they rake in off the sale of them every year.. |
|

Starlight

They should just restrict it to be usen on some specific days not for weeks on end.
I do like fireworks but it gets a bit much |

You can ban it all you want. You can make it unlawful. You can forbid people from buying them where you live...this has been done where I live and guess what? The morons go and buy them somewhere else, transport them, give them to the kiddies and BANG! The police hardly think bugging people about fireworks is up there with all the other laws they cannot enforce and guess what.the police have the best fireworks...it is an unenforceable law. You cannot fix stupid. |

People have been trying for years to get them banned, but as you can see nothing has been done.
I have had to put up with fireworks going off since eid and hindu festivals a fortnight ago.
What we need is an independent survey done, the whole country should voice their opinion.
I for one, would sign it as they are extremely dangerous,my children don't like them and they are a nuisance.
I don't think any politition would consider doing anything until one of their children were maimed or killed by a firework.
Something does need to be done, and i think if the people of Britain cried out in one voice, they might look up and listen. |

I couldn't agree more. Even taking the idiots out of the equation they are too easy to have an accident with even if you're being sensible. I think they should be restricted to official displays. I can't see the point in taking the risk to set them off in your garden when organised displays are always better and can be seen for miles around even if you don't want to pay to go in to see them. |

At last a person after my own heart! I am sitting here and the family living next door but one have started. Its the same old every year, they just can't wait. Any occasion whatsoever! I have a heart condition and I don't need fireworks landing in my garden all the time. Why people can't just go to an organised display beats me. I know its them because they even have a 'explosives on board' sign on the back of thier van. I even have a suspicion that the family may be involved in the firework making business as every year they seem to insist on bigger and louder bangs. Who started this 'tradition' of fireworks in gardens on new year's eve aswell? I am trying to sleep!
I wish that they didn't have areas in supermarkets these days selling them. They should be a luxury, once a year thing, and if you can't go to one on that night, then tough, wait til next year!
Of course we'll probably never get rid of it completely, I'm sure the government won't lift a finger to change anything, because it would be seen as ruining the plebs entertainment. They probably get too much income from it to ban it altogether, but when you think about it, it also ties up the emergency services and hospitals
Maybe we should all sign an online petition, I would sign definitely
Nice talking to someone sane! |

its a lot better now than when before the ban on selling came into force,Some can not afford to go to public displays, and a large gathering would need to be policed and that would increase the community charge,so i think the law is fair one |
