I mean, YOU can't dig up a body and sell them, but there are many businesses that do.

it is most definitely illegal in the U.S. There was a case this year where a doctor got caught selling a liver to an Arab. He was fired and i think the hospital lost their ability to do transplantation. See http://www.unos.org for organ donation facts

Is it illegal? Your insurance company pays a mint for your transplant. So, I guess it depends on your definition of sell, since if the I. C. doesn't pay, you don't get one.

OK. So law generally agrees it is illegal to sell an organ. but Blood is OK to sell. Embryos are OK to buy & sell. Seems to be a big disconnect here in the law & the practice.

its not illegal in Afghanistan.... but is in most parts of the world....there are Afghany families that have all sold a kidney to pay debts.. sad thing is ...they dont get much! it was on either Dateline or 60 Minutes a few weeks back

I have concerns about SELLING human organs lest greed cause theft of human organs for profit. This could be a terrible threat to innocent people. I don't like the profit in the matter. It should not be legal. To give or leave organs when one dies is ok.

It is illegal. Unless you are talking about selling organs of gaurds of the Lora navel base in Split, the Sarajevo Silo in Tarcin, the Dretelj prison camp etc., to former prisoners who lost these organs.

selling human organs is of course illegal...well, if someone wants to donate any organ by will then the case is different....and anyways adding a price tag to any human organ doesn't seem nice.

Selling organs if not illegal is at least immoral It would compare with selling blood. If a person was desperate and wanted to sell their own kidney, I could understand. But it would be a sad reflection on the society the person was living in. If, they were using the money to feed a drug habit, than it would be too dangerous anyway. The harvesting of organs by funeral directors as happened somewhere in the States not too long ago is & should be very illegal. In China, if you have the money, they will actually execute a prisoner when they find a match and sell you an organ. The prisoner may be in jail for a petty crime of theft, it doesn't matter,it helps offset the cost of maintaining their army.

I believe in the US, it is legal to buy and sell blood. Here in Canada it is not.

There is a movement to make it Legal to Sell your organs prior to your death. Example: A 30 year old male may sell his heart for $ 20,000.00. The details of the payout must be worked out. There is substantial opposition to this plan from many sectors.

The precedent has already been set. People sell their Blood for money. People with a Rare blood type receive the most money.

Also, people are now allowed to cash in a portion of their Life insurance policies prior to their death. That is a great idea.
