1. Extensive rap sheet showing progressive crimes and a lack of positive response to prior rehabilitation efforts
2. Extremely violent crime for which a short sentence degrades the serious nature of the crime (juveniles can only be held until they reach a certain age and then they must be released)
3. Discourage adult offenders from using kids to commit more serious crimes since nothing will happen to the kids if they are caught (this is especially significant in drug crime)

Classification of a minor . " Someone under the age of 18 years old" If you have committed a crime that is a State or Federal Offense . And let say your 14 or above . Most States will treat you as adult if the crime is heinous enough. Most kids in between 14 and 17 know what they are doing , Most only get held until there 25 I believe .. But if it is a Murder , Murder resulting from a rape , Or something against your country . You can be put away for life .... Even though
Be aware and Be Smart when your hanging with your so called friends , Gang Members , etc ....... If what your doing is against the law . You have a good chance of being put into Prison....

Are you a juvenile trying to beat the rap for a heinous "Adult" crime?

1. The minor exhibited the decision-making process of an adult.
2. The minor has an understanding of right and wrong, and knew his/her actions to be "wrong."
3. The severity of the crime was great enough to have the minor's mental capabilities evaluated. For example, it is only for pretty heinous crimes that the judicial system looks for items #1 and #2.

big bad momma
they might get abused or molested or taught even more things that might one day cost them their lifes

I think minors should be tried as minors. I think the level of maturity, the lack of being able to protect themselves, the outside influences. I do know that other feel differently and if I HAD to come up with reasons why they should be tried as adults I would say:

The fact that they should know difference between right & wrong.
The possibility of committing another crime.
Premeditation of the crime they committed (was it planned?)

Hope this has helped and Good Question!

Best Wishes!

The Answer Man
1) because they are aware of right and wrong, and knowingly choose to do wrong.
2) it is time that juveniles accept responsibility for their actions, society must no longer give minors a slap on the wrist and send out a message that it is okay to do a crime.
3) if you are capable of committing a serious/ heinous crime (rape, murder, burglary) you should be prepared to face the penalties.

the complexity and sophistication of the crime
for something that has no statute of limitations - rape or murder in the 1st
the person has been proven to be at an age of reason (old enough to know better)

sweetie k
how old are they?
1.well firstly they need more explanation for what they did wrong, so they understand( something you won't find in adult trials)
2. sometimes things just blow out of proportion coz of hormones developing
3. Maybe the crime they would have done is a replica of things goin on at home and they think its normal.

fall
age 17 and age 18 arent a big difference.

CandyApple
It would depend on the crime
1. if a minor is tried for an intentional murder
2. if the minor is tried for intentional arson let's say of a business or school
3. if the minor is caught with a gun on school property age 10 and above.

1. this is a white man,s world if black, or white. 2. is maybe people in this society don,t listen to time as just 20/20 vision. That can possible mean a lot to an minor in that state of fact. And 3. is that how you really feel about an human being. Just non-forgettable, or maybe i,m just black, and forever never accepting the white man,s modern world ways, or any similar to.

Do you mean "tried"?

In America, it's generally:

The severity of the crime,
the age of the minor, and
the color of their skin.

because our society is litigious. Who needs to deal with facts like someone is only 13 when somebody needs to be blamed!

Indeed they should be but there is a lot more money to be shared by the legal system if tried as adults. So to answer your question it's MONEY, MONEY, and more MONEY

Immaturity.
An adult is usually responsible for all of the minor's behaviors.
